OK.. I started this new name a while ago for this forum.. I was Trip Master but i got bored with It! So Sue me... This is an emergency thread to try and keep this forum alive.
I've been away for a while doing boring things like making money. But i've recently put on my Bocks again and decieded i still love the sport. So i thought i should visit this site again, WTF has happened, this site used to be so alive you could feel it, it was buzzing with enthusiasum.. Nothing has happened since i left, the whole site reminds me of a wet fart. What can we do to get this sport going again, i was talking to Sprog on Facebook about a few ideas today that i'll follow up on. I may even create a new forum using a new format of my own. But we have to kick start this place, it's like looking in the fridge at a five day old old pork pie!!! Should i throw it away or risk having a nibble!! I can't believe that all the characters that used to be involved in this sport have dissappered, for gods sake have a say and let me know i'm not the only one that's still alive!!

*Sues Trip*

Agreed, we need something big to pull everyone back together, and not necessarily capital bocking. A forum reboot might work, but has been tried (and failed) in the past.
Trip had a wicked idea when we were chatting on facebook, but I'll leave it to him to reveal that... So if you want to know what it is, bloody get posting and chatting about bocking again, and if you've still got contact with some old hats, pull them back in to the sport and let them know we miss them!

Agreed, and i'd also like Pinhead aswell, i've lost contact but some of you know him.
I'm really feeling like like a bulldozer in a china shop, you'll all have to forgive me, it's just my way.
I've got parking for about 15 - 20 cars, my offices arn't five star but i've got heating and a little kitchen, kettle, boiling hob, computer and toaster... I'm not even selling bocks at the mo so this is really 100% for the sport.

IMHO your experiencing a normal curve of any newish activity.

"NEW" PHASE

. New folk get New activity going.  Activity like Boecking means these new folk are typically younger (High School to college age)

. "New" has an air of excitement

. "creating" new things and skills to go along with new product also has air of excitement

. Youthful exuberance is a HUGE part of the equation

"Next Phase- drop in excitement level"

. Initial members/participants once youthful, have... god forbid... grown up a little.  Youthful exuberance is dissipating from maturation

. activity not NEW anymore, looses some of its flare due to this.

. New Skills, New Mods.... are now slow in coming and extremely (skills particularly) difficult compared to when Boecks first hit the market

. New blood coming in are Exuberant but they move thru the experience faster cause the tools now exist to learn faster cause of knowledge passed on by others. This is Not bad though.  It is  good cause it increases the number of folk who will participate

Biggest part is in the loss of excitement in here from the original memberships is change in the youthful exuberance.  Not for any reason bad.  Mostly for a good reason.  They all  grew up. Some moved on, some stayed around.  That changes the atmosphere and.... that is OK its inevitable.

soooooo ... accept it.... it is different now. If you accept that and help this phase be as good as it can be..... then you'll be happy.   If you just moan and groan about what it use to be .... you'll loose out.

I don't know coach. I think what you are saying is true but the extent it has happened with bocking is pretty high and the knock on effect will be pretty big too. I have been thinking about this a lot recently. I have lost so much enthusiasm for bocking for lots of reasons.

I have pretty much quit. Actually, lets say as of today I have. I never really use my bocks now. A lot of things drained the enthusiasm from me. As usual I took a break from bocking over the summer to do my flying. Come september I usually jump straight back on them. I broke a couple of toes over the summer (twice) and bocking kinda hurt. I bought my own glider in sept and spent all my free time working on it. I had plans to take on flying as a career and the other thing is that there were no real local meets planned. I had no real excuse to get back into it. That and my bocks are not in the best shape..I spent every penny I had on buying and fixing the glider bocks were out of the question. There are so many factors here.

I don't know what has happened to the groups. They seem to have vanished. Bocking is much harder to do alone. If he groups go so will a lot of people and potential people.

I loved what bocking was..look at it now.

The super meet sounds so awesome. The worst part is that even tho it would be in norwich, and with trip and all of the guys I love I dont know if I would go.

I think the problem is groups set up their own sites and forums and all separated out. Ideally, everyone needs to come back here and regroup and share all their info IMO.

Sprog does have a good point about other forums thinning the users out in each forum.

As moderator of a forum discussing tech topics about a very low popular vehicle (Unimogs).... I foresaw this very possibility and cause of it forbid any discussion/ pimping of new discussion boards at all.  Wanted to keep the number of discussion boards at the level it was at that point.  Feared any more would fracture us to much.

Just as Sprog states..... feared it would weaken the quantity of discussion cause less eyes were around to read and respond.  Also feared it weakening the quality of responses cause only a few good minds were on each board instead of many in one place.

welllll that is what has seemed to have happen here.

soooo IMHO.... with that in mind you got a long road ahead to bring this board back to being THE BOECKING board.

1. Ego's.  That will be a big issue.  To get people back in here your intruding on egos of those who created their own boards and want THEIR board to be the big one.  This board's new site owner, or someone who represents him might consider trying to convince some boards to shut down and move here.  Offer them control of a forum on here.... separate space for their own discussions about their geographical regions matters (meet ups, regional chatter etc.)

While it would be better for boecking to have all the good minds in one place.... it will be hard to convince egos running their own boards  to make such a move cause they will look past the "best for boecking" and make it "your just doing this cause it's good for this board owner's Boeck selling biz. While that would be true as well... it may well be secondary benefit in the long run and NOT primary.  New owner here might really even see it that way.... but convincing others that is his true intent.... that will be one hard sell.

Its been hard already.... some members Im guess left here recent cause they smelled some business conspiracy taking over.....  Don't think thats the case.... or this board would have gone all commercial sounding and more capable..... where instead it's actually lost capabilities, quality.  ( a whole separate nother issue waging in other threads)

2. In the mean time... go ahead and create on this board... regional/georgraphic divided forums and get that ball rolling? I know this exist in a small way already (English and other language sides to this board for example)

3. have online competitions between regions somehow? offer incentives?? Whose region post the best mods (though each region members would post mods in one forum... not in their own regions forum) hmmmm.. what else?....  most active region forum?.... hmmm.  Fastest growing region??

I think the thing to pull everyone back together and get this sport going will be the event in Las Vegas this year. We should know by the end of this week about the building we will be using and everything. I will let everyone know ASAP.
