So i was thinking, why dont more people vault over things? I think it would be fun vaulting over all kinds of stuff other than just doing front and back flips. I know its hard to master those but i was just wondering how it would work out on the stilts. Throw some comments

its hard to find the right sized obstacles is my biggest reason, vaulting is fun, but it's hard to find stuff in the right height range to vault, it can't be lower than about 5.5 ft or i have to bend over to vault it and that's no good, and i think the tallest thing i've done was just shy of 7
and the number of vaultable objects between 5.5 and 7ft tall in accessible locations is pretty low.

I am one of the very few people who is FAR FAR more interested in vaulting than I ever am with flips. I have a few ideas for some tricks so watch this space. I will keep you all informed Smiley

Wether I have a strength to pull them off is a different matter though.

the handy thing about vaulting, is if you do catch a hoof, you're still hanging on to what ever you vaulted over, so its pretty hard to hurt yourself

I absolutely love vaulting. I think its way more challenging than flips. Flips rely on ability and confidence and once yo got it - you got it! Vaults vary so much. For example it could be a different height or vaulting something that might have a bigger drop on the other side (I love this feeling). Also it makes a difference if its a pole or rail or perhaps a wall you're vaulting, in which case the wall might be quite wide or angled etc. Then there is the obvious height which can then be mixed together with distance aswell. There are so many different aspects to vaulting that I think it really is a must and it gives you an incredible sense of self achievment.
There is an old video of swebounce running up to a terribly high fence and simply flying over it and it really is very impressive.
edit: this video (32 secs in)

Those of you coming to cardiff next august, there are perfect locations to learn to vault here, and even to push those who can already vault. I have some vids coming in the spring that will help illustrate this.

I can never find anywhere to practise around here that isn't a fence into someone's garden which is my reason for not doing them much Cheesy  I too have loads of ideas for cool tricks I could never do Tongue

Luckily we seem to have a great spot to practice in Gravesend, the wall being about 2 foot on one side and about 6 on the other. Hybrid_Hex showed us how it was done at our meet last weekend. I will try it as soon as I get over my mind over matter issues! hhehehe

I thought I was one in few who cared more about jumping over things rather than flipping...

I live out in the country and I have to build my own things to vault over, but at least that way i get the right hieghts...

Hey guys, i live in melbourne, australia, and a park near me has one of those brick wlls for practicing tennis onthat could be just the right height, so when i get mah bocks i'lll try and make a vid of it and post it here.

P.S My mates and I can somewhat scramble up it already and we're about 180 cm tall.

Cheers, CTimlock
