So, I'm new here, and my risers are in the mail as we speak, but I'm wondering, would it be possible to use a pair of tin snips to cut the tire into the shape you want while keeping the sidewall intact? from there, I was thinking I could have grommets put in the sidewall/mounting lip like the "eyes" in a pair of boots, and you could lace them as tight as you want, finally securing everything with a clamp at the top as mentioned earlier. I'm hoping to give this a try as soon as my risers get here, and I'll make sure to document the whole ordeal with pictures and comments.

That would be great for something that lasts a long time, but some people are burning through their tiresocks in a month or two.  Hardly worth the effort to put the grommets in and make it fancy.  But it sounds like an interesting project if you want to attempt it.  It will probably look great.

WHAT!!!!!?Huh??   Shocked

I guess I have to change the content of my site every 6 months or so in order for it to stay active.  It started out as my first website, and then I put up the PowerBockResources website.  I just linked to my tiresocks site, but should move all of the content over to the PBR website to avoid this issue in the future.  I'll work on that.

Okay...  It is reactivated again.  Thanks for the heads-up, Athoul.

I added tire socks to my powerizer.  I wore through the rubber in just 1 month.  The tire socks work great and I thank you for the suggestion.  I bought a $13 tire at Wal-Mart and it is enough for four socks.  I put a pair on my daughter's powerizers as well.  I cut through the wire with a dremel and left it on because I think it helps prevent the socks from slipping off sideways.

Bocking today for the first time without socks.  Dang, I miss them!  Traction really was better -- now it feels like I'm pivoting all over the place.

I wonder what type of tire do You usually use for socks to achieve better grip
and durability? although grip, to my mind is more important.

What width should the tyre have, e.g. I suppose it's somewhere around 2.2-2.4. And what about tyre softness? Thanx!

I just buy the smallest, inexpensive, nobby child's bike tire at Wal-Mart and it works great for me.  If you plan on bocking at an indoor facility like a gym, I would suggest white tires so the floor doesn't get scuffed.

Hey, about this, nubby tire vs sleek tire.

Ive been biking for a few years, both bikecross and road race. The hole diff between the to types of tires it that the offroad usually have more nubbs and less tire, cause it has to be flexible to make a smoother ride when goin on gravel and in forest (downhill sprint). Were as the road tire, usually is thicker but with less nubs or non at all, only with grooves for water to slip out. But the road tires (the really good once) have a metal or kevlar mesh that prevents punkture.

So.... if its grip u want, OFFROAD, if its wear resitance u need its road tires u want. But then, the kevlar shield can make em more stiff therefor making fitting round the hoff more difficult.

if your paying for tires with kevlar in them your obviously doing something wrong, tire socks are a cheap alternative, kevlar tires aren't cheap

I was mearly pointin out the differense. And as i sayd in the start of my post, i use it for bikin, not bouncin. Weither or not the tyre have kevlar or metal shield in it is up to u. My post dosnt concern costs at all. Only the diffrens between the to types of tyres, road vs. offroad. The roadtires are more resilliant to wear on tarmac then the offroads, ive seen ppl use. Cause its not as soft in the compount as the offroad is.
But all in all, its up to the person and where n' how they are bockin' to see what type of tires they need. I would go for an roadtype, but not a slick, http://www.bmxultra.com/news/2005/geax/geax_poison.jpg (disregard the manufacture, but look at the patern on the tire) Cause im usually on tarmac, but i take em on gravel as well (my bocks that is Smiley ). So intermed. tyres for me (allweather if u may)

OFC u still need some nubs on it to make the strap stick, but most manufactures make the tire less thick the more nubbs they put on it, and then when u strap them onto the bocks u are gonna make the nubs spread more then they where designed to, thus wearing on the part of the tyre that has the thinest wall of rubber. Making them wear out a lot quicker then they have to. But if u go for some with dens nubs u dont get the problem. So plz be aware how thick the tire is, cause it might just give u a few more weeks for small money.

But again, my knowledge is from years of biking, use it or not.

When I was using tyresocks, I found that road tyres gave a lot more grip that off-road tyres, which was helpful when running
You're right about the off-roads wearing down faster though Wink
