I just carry a little extra cash with me so I can pay a passing child to help me up.  Works pretty well as long as I avoid bocking during school hours.  No kids around.  I made that mistake only once, and laid there for hours.

I get up the same way as sprog, i find you get up with less effort (helps alot when you are tired.)

well its the same way as the pop up but you twist you back leg so you end up standing sidways rather than forward.

Here's an old korean promo video that first shows a split method to stand.

I want to see this Twist up method!!!!  I've tried a few the way I think your talking but no go.  I've made the regular pop up a few more times now.

I'll try and load up upload some videos this weekend, since I'll be out and about filming...

The best way to get up is not the fall over in the first place  Grin

I'm so glad I saw this thread... I just tried mine on for the 1st time and was using other stuff to clamber up on.

As soon as I get the hang of actually balancing on bocks i'll have to have an lengthy practice of just getting up & down so that I don't look like a total tit when I fall over!! LOL

A side question re: Balancing, do you guys ever actually stand dead still on bocks? or do you continually 'fidget' moving your feet about to maintain balance?   Also I found (in my brief noob 20min test LOL) I was putting a LOT of weight on the ball of my foot behind my big toes.

you cannot stand still for more than about 30 seconds, because you have such a small contact point with the ground you cannot shift your weight without picking up your feet.

as for where to put your weight you put it right through your heels.

Yeah, as soon as I could get balance, I spent an entire day devoted to jsut getting up and down. It was a tough cookie.

The longest I've ever been able to stand still was just about 10 seconds...

I think the pop-up method is eaiser for medium to tall people as they can get more of the stilt under them. For shorter people, its very very hard to get the stilt under. I have seen first timers that are 5'10" do the pop-up with ease.

I find the split twist method to work for me. Though on concrete or asphalt or wet grass, it can be difficult to get grip and not have it slip out from under you.

Either way, it still takes practice and some strength.

The best way I have found to learn is to go from reverse, from standing to kneeling, and just before my weight has shifted to fall to my knee, I stand back up. I continue to do this getting lower and lower each time, until I have completely moved from a standing position to a split kneeling position while slow and in control.

A good way to practice getting up and build up you confidence is to put you bocks on whilst you are sitting on the floor. This is what i did and it worked really well, now i dont mind falling over. Grin
