Taping the spring?

Ok im getting powerizers soon (yay  ) and i was thinking, its recommended that you tape the spring up with hockey tape or what ever, but im thinking, wont this restrict the movement of the spring? making it harder to compress? or doesnt it affect it at all?

It doesn't affect the spring at all.  think of it like this, you can stand on the spring, it'll hold you up,  if you stood on some tape suspended between two points, it woudn't hold you up.  Therefore, the spring is much stronger than tape.  Theoreically if you wrapped so many times that you had like an inch of tape around the spring, then you'd prolly feel a difference, but even then not a very big one.  You'd just look like you had gigantic springs.

i have 3, some people use less some use more. but 3 does the job

hey, i was wondering the same thing, but the only tape i have is duck tape, lol. would duck tape do or would i have to buy some hocky tape?
if i need hocky tape, where could i get some?

i saw that bill C had put a bike inertube on his spring then wrapped tape arround it.

electical tape would do, put like 3 layers arround the spring.
that seems to be a good amount as i know a few people have used 3 layers.

The tape doesn't only protect the springs from getting cracks from using them but also from getting nicks and other damages from the "outside". And getting a layer around that is at least 0.5 mm i recommended.

I'm looking into something that could provide a much higher level of protection against nicks than 'leccy tape.

I'll keep you posted but I think I'm definately onto something.

I think I'll tape my springs, I've already scraped the outer sleeve a little bit just getting them on and off.

Black hockey tape (widely available in the U.S. at sports stores like Sports Authority) works brilliantly at protecting the springs and isn't especially expensive.

When I first got my 'rizers I tried electrical tape, and even with several wrappings nicks were still frequent and would go right through the tape "protection."  Since wrapping them with the hockey tape I've had no nicks, even fallen a few times times, and haven't had to give the springs a second thought.
