Well recently when I was bocking I noticed that when I pushed down on my left spring and let it up it would "creek" like an old metal door. I have my springs taped up with three layers and I dont want to have to take the tape off unless I have a good understanding that it may be broken. I didnt hear the spring break but thats what it is doing. So if anyone could tell me the symptoms of a broken spring that would be nice.

Nope, doesn't sound like it.

Is it softer than the other spring when you just stand on it?

if its broken it would compress significantly more than usual by just walking.

yeah, also have a check for cracks around the bolts and where the spring isn't taped, the crack in my right spring spread from the middle, and came out the bottom of the protection...and at the top eventually, so unless there's a significant loss of power, or increase in bottoming out suddenly, then it should be fine, you should use it till it's dead anyway, just for the fun of killing some springs

Just wondering, what level of danger do I face if there are a few small strips off the backs of the springs?  Two or three on either spring, about 7mm wide and 1mm thick.  I'm planning on giving my old bocks to a friend to learn on, then later he'll get some new springs for himself.  Will he die?  There are no nicks on the springs, they are in the same condition and have the same strength, and I don't know how long they've been like this.

if the spring starts splitting it's not gonna kill anyone, it'll slowly degrade till it's unuseable, the only way you could get seriously hurt would be having a perfectly good spring snap instantly, which is unlikely.  They'll be fine for him to learn on, i could've kept going on my old ones for ages, but the right one was a lot weaker than the other so i didn't Tongue

though depending on his weight the time they'll last is greatly variable, just give him them and say the springs are almost dead, but fine for learning on...and then if he likes it he can get some new springs, cheaper than most stilts depending on the spring of course

OK thanks, that's exactly what I was planning on doing.  They're Poweriser 7090s, they're pretty tough and he knows they're on their last legs.  on the bright side, they'll be soft enough to learn on easily.  Can't wait till my new pair comes in!  He can't wait till he gets my old pair.

yeah soft springs are a dream to learn on...but if you learn on soft springs like i did, then buy a pair of 7-leagues springs, the class above yours, well umm get ready for a shock lol
