Depending on when you hold this you will only have half the essex massive, as the rest of us are at the world scout jamboree for several weeks over the summer!

Excuses! Roll Eyes

I came up with one whilst I was just out bocking... Who can run the fastest?
Do it alongside a car or something, and see who can keep up the longest as the car slowly accelerates... Good idea? Smiley

Woah, 3 pages of posts to read, that was fun Smiley  I'd definately be up for that, except probably not for trick/height things cos I suck at that but running I should be ok.  And Becky, I thought the Jamboree was in Essex, are you saying you can't leave for 2 days?  Or do they lock the gates for the duration of it?

Yeah the Jamboree is in Essex and no we cant leave! We have to work while we are there so we might get a few hours off one day but not much more (we might get time to sleep too!) and having paid £500 to be there im gonna make the most of it!
Q - what camps have you been going to!?!?!

Even if some of us are at the Jamboree, im sure the rest of Essex will have some representatives!

I think it would probably be best if professionals such as Kiola, were judges as it would be an unfair advantage against anyone non proffessional. Maybe the professionals could compete against each other......

ok about time I replied to this topic i guess!
I feel that I have quite a knowledge in this sort of thing, as i have personally been involved in things like this for a long time, and I have just finished a 3 year university course which has given me a lot of experience and knowledge (plus a qualification) to do this.

First off all I will address this sentance.
I know a lot of you have been saying that you think Bocking isn't about competition.
And you're wrong. Wink

That is an opinion and should be stated so, and i would also note that there is no rationalisation to your point. saying "just cos" doesnt make anyone right. If it is just an opinion then just state it as one and not try and enforce it on others, you wouldnt want a load of christians or Jehovas witnesses coming up to you and telling you your wrong just because they know better. So please be more careful with what you say next time.

I actually dont think you have read the essay I wrote O2 and you dont have to, but I do think that if your serious about the doing this you should at LEAST look at some of the counter arguments for the problems with competition as they will need to be addressed.

esssay can be found here
http://www.PoweriserPages.com/forum/powerbocking_vs_competition_essay_warning_very_long_post-t2371.0.html

-----
ok few other things.

As for the "categories" things will be split into, I think that is going to be the toughest decision of the whole thing. I will nto again reitterate what was in the essay about these difficulties, but if you have read it you will see the problems that can come from this.
My answer
To make all the competitions as fun based and as little serious competition as possible. I love the idea of making it like a "its a knockout" style things, which allthough are competitive they are fun competition rather than your normal traditional sport kidn of competition.

I also think lockys suggestion of
For example, people could work out (honesty required here) approx how far and high they can jump. lets say height in this example. Some people can hardly jump at all so we could have a category for under 2ft or 3 or whatever. This category might have several people in it but it means those who dont have the ability to jump high wont actually miss out on the games.
is the best one. Now this can be done but it needs a little thinking and a little reorgnaisation from your normal idea of doing that kind of competition but its possible and think that done well it could be awesome.

------
But overall I would love this to happen.

Im all up for having a good day of great competitions on bocks and making it fun. But I also know that if this day is done in the wrong way and becomes too serious then it could be much more detrimental to the sport than you realise. This is a huge undertaking and I think it will need some serious amount of organisation and carefull consideration to many thigns before it should go ahead.

I wouldnt expect these to be mentioned yet, but have people thought about, equipment, facilities, insurance, personal safety for the athletes, child safety (Very Important), staffing, financial elements? there are many more but that is just me giving you a little insight to how BIG this event would be, and SHOULD be.

I would love to see it go ahead and i like some of the ideas coming up, and I am personally more than willing to be involved in helping you organise this event. so if you are serious about this, then contact me as i have lots more to build upon than what is a brief post.

I know it's rude to say, but I'm fairly sure that does happen, at least to me Wink

And I do agree with you Dawesome that this event would have to be handled very carefully but as long as we are sensible and make sure we don't let anyone enter who is gonna get sillily overenthused and make it worse for everyone then I can't see anything wrong at all with it.

Professional = you are paid to do it, thats the only difference.  Too often people think there is a necessary skill difference between Professional and Amateur but there really isnt, the former is just paid to do it.  Professionals just normally end up better as the have more regular and structured training etc.

re 'professional'  i would hope ( i think i touched on it in an earlier post) there would be some self disipline and individuals would just not enter some events . But in some 'open' events there is no reason why 'the best' could not take part. I especially mean the fun events , think brucie in a 'very big' sack race.  Im not sure that it is one of the biggest issues to be overcome, certainly not now.

Dawesome has listed lots of them and incemountable they do indeed look. But broken down in to component parts they are all managable. I suspect the bggest problem may be the lack of upfront cash.

Well thats anough for another post
