Hi,

I have seen that the foot of bocks generally don't last as long as the rest of the model. Many people are trying new things to try and extend the period of time it lasts for. I have an idea and would like to know if it has been done before, whether you think it work and anything else.

I want to know why people don't get a bike tire or part of one and cut the bike tire into a bit that fits onto the rubber foot on the bottom of the bocks. Then super glue it on and possibly more thingys to hold it on...

Thx, can't wait for your feedback...

P.S. Its my birthday today and i think i might by some bocks with some of the birthday money and some of my money!

STEP 3:
Using wire snips, cut the steel wire in the tire rims to separate the tire halves.   You will wind up with two pieces of tire, each approximately 21 inches long.

Why not cut along the inside of the wire !?

and it also proves some resistance to splitting of the webbed rubber of the tyre sidewall when tightened properly.

You can do it either way.  I even folded my wires under for awhile.  Depending on how you jump and land, spins, etc they can slide off to the side a little easier with the wires cut off.  Could also depend on the width of the tire.

I warm the tire up with an hair drier before I put them on and then pull tight 99% that works !?
I've only had one tire slip so much I had to re-do it !?

My left bock has always been fine even without any wires, but something about my right bock or some unevenness in my stride makes the right tire sock slide all the way to one side and wear faster.  I've heard superglue or perhaps some rubber cement is the best solution to the sliding problem, although I've never tried it myself.  My father (who makes model trains and does a lot of stuff with varying adhesives) says a glue that dries brittle would not hold up to the pounding of the hoof, so that's why I mentioned rubber cement.

Plus, if you glue it, you only need to use about 14cm of tire per hoof (maybe a bit more for 7leagues), making the bike tire last longer and reducing the weight added to the hoof, which I think is noticeable.

Oh yeah, and I figured it is worth mentioning, even though I've said it a few times before, mountain bike tires are softer and get less traction on pavement than thinner tires.  I've found a relatively high-pressure tire with thin but definitely present tread works very well.  Those tires are extra-tough and get very nice traction.  My opinion may be biased a little because the mountain bike tire I tried was rather old.  But you really don't need the stud-covered tread on pavement.

I do not understand why nobody cuts the tire to the same size as the rubber sole and then attaches it using a powerful glue. I have been into a glue specialist this morning and explained the exact usage and pounding the hoof gets. He told me to use Loctite 406 (an industrial version of super glue). He says there is no way that the tyre will separate from the rubber sole but equally, it will be impossible to remove so I would have to either glue another over the top when this one wears out or buy another rubber sole from pro-jump.

He asked another interesting question. Why not use a car or motorcycle rear tyre as that has a much greater depth and surface and is made to last a very long time?

Incidentally, socks slipping from side to side can be stopped by adding two fine screws to the front lip so that they enter the standard sole horizontally. You could even do that with the rear lip also if needed.
