Hello all, i am doing a school project on the culture of thrill seekers (i consider extreme sports under that category). As a part of the project i am supposed to interview some members of the culture so where better than here? So to kick things off here go a few questions... I will ask more as i think of them Wink

1. What keeps you guys doing what some consider a dangerous activity?

2. What is the strangest/funniest comment that a bystander has said?

3. Do you have any other activities/extreme sports that you do?

4. What was the most frightening thing that you have done/ happened to you on bocks?

5. What is the worst injury that you have endured? from bocks or other extreme sports?

1. It's unbelievable fun. I'm up in the air even before I start bouncing and I feel a little superhuman.  That's just about all there is to it.

2. One time I had a run-in with a midget.  She didn't have anything very funny to say, but she was seriously interested.

3. I bike everywhere I go, but I don't do much extreme.  I do snowboard and ski, and I've always wanted to do parkour, but it's hard and I have no terrain near my house.

4. Critical velocity is scary as hell.  If you're moving fast enough on a downward slope, you gain height with each stride instead of losing it.  Very hard to get out of.  I've never gone completely out of control, but the idea of falling while barreling down a hill five feet in the air, or maybe hitting something, scares the poop outta me.

5. I nearly knocked myself out THROUGH a skateboarding helmet once.  I was pretty new and running faster than I should have been while I was nearly exhaustion (You know how most skiing fatalities occur in the afternoon when everyone's tired), and I tripped.  Next thing I remember, my head was bouncing back up from the pavement.  I figure I went down sideways, crunched my shoulder (still have a scar from abrasion against the inside of my T-shirt so I presume there was a great deal of pressure), and my head had a whip effect as it hit the pavement.  I remember thinking, as I looked around, "OK, I'm rebooting.  My personality should come back sometime soon.  Oh, that's who I am, good to know.  Crap my shoulder hurts!"  I walked it off and never saw a doctor, but it still scared me off my bocks until my shoulder started working again.

1. What keeps you guys doing what some consider a dangerous activity?
I want to fly, I tell people all the time, If there's an activity out there, that lets me go fast and get high off the ground, i'll try it.  Being on a level playing field is boring, get me up in the air and i'm happy.  If there's no potential for danger there's no fun.  I can't do anything normally, i jump down stairs and over railings all the time, just cause it makes walking from A to B more interesting.

2. What is the strangest/funniest comment that a bystander has said?
idk

3. Do you have any other activities/extreme sports that you do?
um.. this list is pretty long.  Mountian biking, agressive inline skating, skateboarding, bmx, wake boarding, snow boarding, trapoline, free running, etc, you name it, i've prolly tried it, and if i haven't its prolly on the list of ones i want to do.

4. What was the most frightening thing that you have done/ happened to you on bocks?
first back flip attempt by far, scarriest thing i've ever done on bocks.
tripping while running full speed, and falling backwards are up there on the scarry scale too

5. What is the worst injury that you have endured? from bocks or other extreme sports?
bocks, some scrapes
other sports, broken arm, sprained ankle, cuts, scrapes, burises

1. What keeps you guys doing what some consider a dangerous activity?
I have only just started bocking, but it is the same reason as any other sport. Your personal progression in the sport, and the feeling you get from pushing yourself to learn, and the rush you get when you land or learn a new trick or move. Once competent and confident at a particular trick, the looks and comments of from joe public, are a different kinda buzz.

2. What is the strangest/funniest comment that a bystander has said?
What's wrong with your legs?

3. Do you have any other activities/extreme sports that you do?
I don't do anything regually except MTB. I used to Skateboard for 12yrs, and we Snowboard/Ski every couple of years. i have tried most EX activitys, Carting, Scuba diving, Water skiing, Surfing, Body boarding, any theme park ride, Bungee Jumping, Tandom Skydive. The senses that each of the activitys stimulate, let you know that you are alive....

4. What was the most frightening thing that you have done/ happened to you on bocks?
Losing control, and falling are both sketchy on bocks. It is very difficult to counterbalance the weight and length of the bocks when falling. You can't control the fall in the usual way, the bocks tend to dictate how it will happen.

5. What is the worst injury that you have endured? from bocks or other extreme sports?
Bocks= Dislocated finger
MTB= gravel rash (nasty and sore)
Sk8= sprained ankles/wrists, 24hr concussion. many more that have been long forgoten.

Good luck with the school project foppert. It is always good when you can combine your interests with your studies.

My avatar in no way, represents my bocking ability. It is just a fun graphic design.

1. What keeps you guys doing what some consider a dangerous activity?
Well. ever since i started to walk as a little kid, i have always loved trampolines... and once i saw the powerisers i knew i had to get them. im pretty new to this sport and dont have the confidence to do any tricks jet but in time il get some done. i also get adrenaline rush from using the stilts... i used to hate running, but the stilts have given running a whole new meaning! and as i say to me mates, most people have trampolines in their backyard, while i have just strapped the trampoline on to my feet and bring it with me everywhere i go.

2. What is the strangest/funniest comment that a bystander has said?
"how do you put them on?" ... i mean come on... its pretty self explanatory how to put them on innit?

3. Do you have any other activities/extreme sports that you do?
always liked hights and climbing stuff... i guess mountainclimbing counts here. i have also done some capoeira and rollerblades.

4. What was the most frightening thing that you have done/ happened to you on bocks?
hmmm.. havent had anything really frightening happen to me yet... it is cinda scary when i get the feeling im gonna fall backwards tho..

5. What is the worst injury that you have endured? from bocks or other extreme sports?
nothing on bocks, but i did get pretty hurt from falling on rollerblades once.. was goin really fast and some rock or summat jammed one of the wheels, and the result was me bounsing and tumbeling for like 15-20 meters before finally coming to a stop. my helmet splitting in half and no skin left on elbow and knee... even had people running up to me to see if i had survived the fall, i hear it was brutal. the doc had me "in bed" for a week becouse my body had too much infection in it.

1. What keeps you guys doing what some consider a dangerous activity?

Fun, adrenaline, exercise.

2. What is the strangest/funniest comment that a bystander has said?

Haven't really done it in public much, but most of what I hear is 'do a flip!'.

3. Do you have any other activities/extreme sports that you do?

Yes, lots. Downhill mountain biking, bmx, snowboarding, skiing, pier/cliff jumping, bigwheeling, shooting(does that count as extreme) and a bunch of other random stuff.

4. What was the most frightening thing that you have done/ happened to you on bocks?

Er, finding myself running down a hill on my first time out on them. It stung a bit heh. Oh also kneeing myself in the face after a failed front summie. I got a black eye from that one.

5. What is the worst injury that you have endured? from bocks or other extreme sports?

Black eye from bocks (not been doing it long). On the bike I once managed to jump throat first into a metal cable. That knocked me out cold, cut my neck open and knocked my top two vertebrae out of place slightly (C1 and C2?). That was a fun few days. Skiing I've had some pretty big bails while doing some cliffs and learning to backflip, but I've been pretty lucky thus far. Cuts, grazes and bruises don't count as injuries.

I always wear correct protection and stuff and I weigh up risks before attempting something. I like to see myself as more of a calculated idiot, rather than just an idiot. [Cheesy]

Cheers.

Rock Climbing. Mountain Biking.
