Cheers Cantallian,

Tiddly-Winks it is then. Grin

How do you injure your knees when bocking?
In my case i was jumping down stairs. After bouncing down a single flight, about 18" high, i went for two flights, after that 3ect. no probs.
On my next attempt from the top, it all went pear shaped on the last flight.
Between each flight there is a platform, and each flight i bounced down i was getting higher and higher. I bounced so high down the last flight that i totally sh*t myself, lost my balance falling backwards. My arms and legs were flailing all over the place, trying to keep myself upright, and to make sure i did not land on my back..
My left leg was out streched in front of me, and my body weight was all leaning forward, on contact with the floor, this put extreme backward pressure on my knee (hyperextension), and that was it. Game Over.

I am so gutted. I thought i was progressing quite well with the bocks, and this has gone and knocked me for six.

I have not really felt any shock through normal bouncing. Even when i bottom out, it was not that bad. The flip-flop idea could have some merit though.

Keep us posted.  X-rays aren't going to show anything but bone injury.  You'll need an MRI in order to see if there is any ligament damage.  I suspect they will send you for one if the swelling doesn't go down soon.  Please keep us posted, and good luck.

Just back from the specialist.
Shish, that guy made it hurt!!
My 2 week sick note has just been extended to 4 weeks, so that is not a good sign. Embarrassed

Bill, you are quite right, the consultant wants me back in 3 weeks to do either a MRI scan, or keyhole camera, to ascertain the damage.
From the manipulation he did, and the grimaces i gave in reply, he thinks that one of the 4 ligaments (the cruciate) has been damaged.
He can't be sure until the further inspection is done in 3 weeks though.

There is also a build up of blood and fluid around the knee that may require releasing, if it does not subside. (i hate needles). Cry Subside you bugger, subside.
I am now wearing a thigh to calf brace to minimise movement, so as not to aggravate it any further.

Here's hopping Grin that the Doc has it all wrong, and i will be running around next week, good as new. yeah right.

Bill, what you said about the hip moving naturally in that direction makes sense.
I will take a closer look at the knee braces. Wink

Due to my recent injury, i have now been looking at various knee braces.

http://www.return2fitness.co.uk/Supports_And_Braces/Knee_Supports/md429knee

I have a question though.
If i had been wearing quality braces at the time, this may well have saved my knee??, but at what cost?
Surely the impact pressure would have then dissipated at the next vulnerable joint, ie. my hip??
Any thoughts??

My knee was re-examined at my local hospital yesterday, with more Xrays.
It is still as swollen as it was. No better or worse.
I am to see the specialist later today, to try and determine exactly what i have damaged.
Fingers crossed for positive news.

Ha, Ha,
i like how the guy in the Astra is not confident in your abilities, and shifts his car out the way. Grin

hopefully here.
I am hoping that the lack of pix at the mo, means that they are all still out there, making the most of the daylight?

Cheers Bill for you best wishes.
Yeah they did the pulling thing and Xrays. Nothing broken. They are waiting for the swelling to subside before further analysis.
I will certainly be looking at the braces you mentioned. I did have knee supports and knee pads on at the time, so hopefully that has minimized any damage, at least a little.
I hope it heals quickly?

I think the weather forecast in Cardiff was supposed to be a bit better for today.
Lets hope for many more positive additions to this thread.

Looks like you guys at CB are having fun. I am so envious  Sad

I had been looking forward to this meeting for weeks now, and you can't imagine just how gutted i am right now.
I was gonna take loads of pix and video footage to share with you guys, but it was not to be.....

As you know, a week ago DI broke his wrist, so was unable to attend CB. That was a bummer. Now there was just Aztectrev and i traveling down.
They say bad luck comes in three's??? I don't believe a word of it.

We set of at 5am, and we had covered the 200 miles to Cardiff by 8am. We were well excited.
Had a look around the bay area, which is so cool, an ideal arena for bocking, and then we went to fill our bellies.
After brekky, it was still only 9am, and there was no-one there, but it was dry, so we padded up and started bocking around 9am.

Within 20mins i was on the deck at the foot of the stairs, with my knee shot. Embarrassed
After bouncing down a single flight, i went for two, after that 3ect. no probs.
On my next attempt from the top, it all went pear shaped on the last flight. I bounced so high that i totally sh*t myself, lost my balance and my arms and legs were flailing all over the place, trying to keep myself upright.
My left leg was out streched in front of me, and my body weight was all leaning forward, on contact with the floor, this put extreme backward pressure on my knee (hyperextension), and that was it. Game Over at 0920hrs. Embarrassed
Unbelievable. Sad

A big thanx to Flying Monkey and his pals (whom had just arrived at this point), for driving my car to the hotel car park.
I really appreciated you taking the time out to do that guys.  Wink Saved me the hassle of getting clamped.
From there i got an ambulance to the Hospital, where i spent 4 & 1/2 hours in various waiting rooms.

Once i was released out on crutches, i planned to get down the bay to watch the proceedings and take some piccies.
I called AT to see where he was, but as it was raining, most had retreated to the pub by then. Sad
At also informed me that he had snapped his spring.  Sad What!!
We must be the most unlucky group of bockers, to try and attend CB?

On top of that, as Aztectrev does not drive, i had to get my sister, and wife to drive the 200 miles down, just to recover the car, and then drive us the 200 miles back.

I have not seen any bocking action. The only bockers i have met were Flying Monkey and his 2 mates (sorry guys, i can't remember your names), and a group of guys that were staying in the Etap hotel. Mini Ellis, Gregg11 and others.

I am soo pi*sed off at myself. The disappointment is massive. I just can't believe this happened. Sad Sad

Here are the only 2 pics i have:
As you can see my left knee is well swollen, and any movement is incredibly painful.

Right, so you lucky guys still at CB, make sure you have a great time, stay safe, and take plenty of pix and vids, cos i wanna know what i missed.
Thanx for the concern and support of the few guys/gals i did meet.
Sorry to all that were let down by my injury.

Thanx, i will check it out.

zeri,
been there done that. Cheesy

darfgarf,
thanx for the advice.

theibault,
i will ask about. i take it elements is another video editing program?

Well i can't for the life of me work out how to export smaller file size direct from premiere??
What i have done is to take the 138mb avi file that i can save, and then open that in WMM, and from there i can resize the export.
this next version is just 1.44mb
i wonder how different it will look?

Hmm, well it does not look that different at all.
At least i can get the smaller file size now, even though my method is a bit long winded at the mo.
12  Powerising / Videos / Safety first on: August 14, 2008, 07:40:26 PM
You may recall some weeks ago, i requested some video editing software, as windows movie maker kept crashing on me. Sad
Well, i have managed to scrounge a copy of Adobe Premiere 6.5 from a guy at work, Wink and i have been trying to get to grips with it now for a few days.
The program is massive, and as i get to learn more about it, i hope to be able to show some good videos using it in the future.
I have only been trying to find my way around it at the mo, but i have put together a small vid, just using the basic features. It is surprising how much is involved in just a short 35sec clip.
There is no bocking in this one, but i am hoping that more action will follow, as i fumble my way through.

just struggling with the exporting of movies now. that took nearly 2hrs to upload on youtube, and it was 138mb.

Bockin Whilst Doing An Everyday Job.

Well so far i have used my bocks to clean the conservatory roof, and for cutting the top of the conifer hedge.

Much easier than standing on the milk crate that i used before, and i don't have to keep getting down to move it along. Wink

I have heard plasterers use them too, for ceilings??

Locky baby,
It would seem that you have had to learn a lesson, the hard way.
Councils are normally made up of middle aged folks, who are too scared of the responsibility, to make a decision.
They need to have meetings to arrange meetings for goodness sake.

As they have never agreed to anything in the first place, i feel you may have jumped the gun a bit with your glitzy website/radio station, promotional info and T-shirts.
The way it has come across, is that this was all a done deal, and all the legal bobbins were sorted, and this was to be an official event. Guinness World Records were billed as being there too, at one point.
Cripes! there are even folks crossing the Atlantic to be there, based on the info provided.

I can understand this, as you have had a great idea, and you have much enthusiasm for it, and everyone is sending out positive vibes about it. The problem is that no-one is prepared to commit their name to it. To much red tape and liability, scares them off.
You have tried very hard to do this the right way, and get the council and authorities on side, but they are just not up to the job.

In essence, what you have done, is show folks that there is a great bocking spot in Cardiff, and used the internet to pick a date upon which like minded bockers can all get together in one place. There is no law against that, although if we become a nuisance, we could be moved on by the police. (no biggie).

So there is no event as such. We are all individually coming to Cardiff of our own vocation. It just happens that we will all be wearing bocks. Cheesy

I still reckon it will be a great weekend talking and swapping ideas with others, and watching and learning from others.

Fingers crossed for decent weather,
See you all there.
