BUT my uncle was on visit the other day, and he told me it was first invented by a Russian guy. It was suppose to be used as a transportation tool for the Russian soldiers in rough terrain.
I got no sources except my uncle, but he usually don't talk bullsh**, and he got lots of interest in things like that.

I friend of mine had a uncle that had been smoking for 20 years. Managed to quit and stayed clean for 7 years or something, then a guy asked him on a new year party if he wanted a cigar. And he thought, well its just this once for good old days.  *POFF* And he was smoking like a maniac again....
