1  Everything Else / General Talk / 5K35 and Susan B Komen Race for the Cure on: August 27, 2008, 11:19:32 AM
Hey everyone, I know it's been a while since I've been on the forums posting. No worries, I have been bocking, but have been really involved in college and helping my brother with his new grassroots campaign called 5K35. The name comes from the hospital room number that my mother passed away in from breast cancer. My brother has devoted his life to help my mom continue her fight, while she cant, to help others not experience what she had to go through. Here's a video of what it's all about.

Now that I have you all completely bummed everyone out, it's time I should explain why I'm posting. Well, in Portland, OR, the Race for the Cure is on September 21st, less than a month away. It's a HUGE 5k run or walk event (they don't allow bocking  Embarrassed), with over 50,000 people showing up to support breast cancer research. My brother has been working side-by-side with RftC and has come up with a new theme: Save the boobs!. Yes, not the most PC way of saying it, but it gets peoples' attention enough to understand what it's about and help support. He made a video about it too.

All I ask is for support. He has a website he created (http://www.5k35.com), I started a Facebook group (http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=27998611149). If you could just take the time to look at his website or maybe check out the Facebook group, it would mean the world to not only my bro, but to my whole family. I'd just like to end with a quote my brother wrote:

Why I do the Race.
Last year, my daughter Chloe was born on the eve of the Portland Race for the Cure, and my oldest daughter Louren, who is now 5, ran in the Race with us and the 48,000 other believers down at Waterfront Park.  In Louren’s mind, the Race for the Cure is something everyone cares about and does.  She doesn’t know any different and I love that.  She knows she lost her grandma Dottie to this disease, and every once and awhile she asks me if we can say “Hi” to her in heaven by sending her a balloon with a message.  I can’t wait for the day when we get to send up the balloon that reads, “We found the cure.”

Thanks for reading. Please spread the word. Sorry admins if this is against rules and you may delete it if it is.

I started researching and bid on a pair on ebay the next day!

Unless you get a really good deal, I suggest looking at a website that sells them instead of ebay. With the website, you get the warranty, which is something worth having. Just a suggestion.

Ya, i know it's bad, but i have to include it as part of my essay sources......i don't get it either....
4  Everything Else / Anything Else Powerisers / Writing an essay on bocking on: April 24, 2008, 07:16:24 PM
Hey everyone,

For my Writing class, I have to write a paper on bocking and I have to use Wikipedia for some of it. When I look at the Wiki site for bocking, all I could find was powerbocking, and the article is really small and doesn't even have PoweriserPages.com on it.

I was hoping maybe some of us could update the article. I would update it, but it would look really weird if I updated it when I'm researching it for the essay lol. I know a lot of you all know way more than I do about bocking. Plus, not only just for me, but it would be a great place for people to really know what they are from a site that gets a ton of hits.

Thanks!

just for a side idea to location....it would be awesome if when you sign up, you can put in a zip code or postal code or something and it would put a little pin on a map showing where you are located, makes it easier for people to find each other and it can show just exactly where bocking is expanding. It sounds really complicated, but it would be a cool feature.
7  Powerising / Problems / Re: Setup on: April 16, 2008, 05:24:45 AM
Hey Bill, what kind of knee brace do you use? Wrap? Hinged? Expensive?
8  Powerising / Problems / Re: Setup on: April 14, 2008, 10:55:27 AM
My knees thank you guys so much for the pictures showing where the knee bar goes. Until recently, there were right in the soft part of my knee. Not only do my knees feel better, but I have better control of my jumping and running.

And discovered today, I now understand what Bill means about buying a knee brace to go with the pads when doing tricks. I was trying to land 360's and 540's and, boy, if you land wrong or jump wrong, it's painful.

Thanks again guys. (and gals Wink)
9  Powerising / Practising / Re: how old is the oldest person you have seen bocking? on: April 14, 2008, 05:08:42 AM
the oldest person i've seen bocking in person is.....me, which is 19 lol

the oldest person that's asked me questions about bocking and considered buying/trying some would probably be about 60, but they only want them because it builds up leg muscle.....

So, I got a phone call from a friend, while I was bocking at night, to meet him at a campus store to get something to drink. He said to hurry, and I had been practicing my running a little bit so I felt prepared to go run on my bocks and meet him there. The store is about 4 blocks away from where I was. I started running and was doing pretty good. I was running down a long straight part and thought I was running good until my left bock hit a manhole cover, slipped and lost footing all together. I fell right on my hands, elbows, and knees. But, I only had two of those three things covered with pads and so my elbows got some road rash.

When I fell down, people were freaking out like "Omg, are you ok? Do you need help?" Cars hit their brakes to check on me. I was all "I'm ok, I got it." Pulled my leg around, got back up, and kept going lol.

In the picture, I have three ban-aids. (2 plain and 1 cartoon one. The girls in my dorm said I needed a colorful one lol)

Man, I love this sport lol.

12  Everything Else / Anything Else Powerisers / New Bock Inspection on: April 03, 2008, 05:55:51 AM
Hey everyone,

I've been getting more and more excited about my bocks, especially since they are arriving tomorrow. And, my friends all see that I'm getting excited and joke around saying "what if your bocks got here and they were broken?"

Now now, I'm not that gullible or anything, but it did make me think about it. I mean, it was being shipped FedEx... (I had FedEx drop a package once that cost $800, broke it, and I'm still waiting for the insurance money... Angry)

Anyway, to get to the point, my question is: Is there anything I should check for when my bocks arrive? Are they ready to go straight out of the box? Is there any mods you recommend doing when they arrive?

Thanks everyone.

14  Powerising / Where to Powerise / Re: Bocking to work in London on: April 02, 2008, 01:40:39 AM
Sorry I don't know the current conversion factor between dollars and pounds, but it was a little over two pounds to the dollar last time I checked.

I wish it was like that. I think what he means is that its just over two dollars to the pound. Just wanted to clear up any confusion.
