691  Purchasing Powerisers / Where to Buy / Re: Where to buy Powerisers, not fly-jumpers? on: April 19, 2006, 01:41:17 AM
I got a pair of the fly jumpers, and 3 days later... i'm jumping about 4 feet high.

I'm freakin addicted.

Bill and I are going to compare them probally within a week or two.

As far as I can tell from photos and whatnot, they are basically identical... other than manufacturer.

what are you talking about fuse?  I was a fairly active BMX rider, and i've fallen from WAY higher than i will ever get on a pair of powerisers.

That and that alone has protected my head from being split in half.

I didn't replace the whole binding and plate....

I replaced just the straps and ratchets.

I'll shoot pictures later!
695  Powerising / Modifying Powerisers / Re: Modifying Powerisers on: April 14, 2006, 07:06:22 PM
I am currently thinking about modifying the calf plate, with a much larger one, that is adjustable more.  The idea is, your leg has to be offset forward a bit, to make your center of balance solid, and having a more solid support might make wearing them fore extended periods of time much more comfortable.

Ideally, i'd like to remove the knee bar completely, and replace it with a strap based system.  Something not entirely unlike what you see on the velocity stilts, but with a totally different system.

I'm thinking about modifying a rachet based system to a custom shinguard.

the idea is, to sandwich your shin all the way up to just below your knee, and provide a much larger calf plate section as a back of the leg support, which will distribute the force better.

this would facilitate the removal of the knee pad and bar.... which i would imagine might make them much more comfortable and easy to wear for long periods of time.

I'll develop more on this, in the near future.

Any reactions to this would be appreciated.

i replaced my bindings and straps completely with new sowboard ones.  Much more secure, and they offer much more stability.  The metal clips ratchet much stronger than the plastic ones.

The only thing you need to pay serious thought to, is the mounting hardware, and the size of the holes in the straps/binding tops that you will be sending the mounting hardware through.  I got lucky, and happened to have a lot of spare hardware on hand to experiment with.
697  Powerising / Practising / Re: Is it possible to stand still with poweriser? on: April 14, 2006, 02:49:47 AM
i can stand still, or pretty darn close to it, and i've only worn them for two hours so far.

I shift my weight slightly, and it does all the work for me

I have mine on the inside, but i also replaced my bindings with custom ones.

I feel more comfortable with them that way, i'm not sure why.

Maybe it's because i'm left handed?

I've purchased:

elbow/forearm guards (Rockgardn)
padded shorts, (Rockgardn)
with tail bone padding and dense polymer inserts to protect other various areas like your hips....
a BMX Helmet (661)
BMX kneeguards (661)
Pryme Trailhands gloves (local bike shop)

I plan on using everything except for the helmet until i get comfortable on them.

Then removing the elbow/forearm guards
and leaving the kneeguards and gloves on.

For tricks and flips, or anything else crazy i'll wear the helmet along with the rest of the gear.

My Fly Jumpers come friday.  I don't know when the other pair comes yet... as I ordered them from Japan.

sixsixone.com

rockgardn.com

Both on  the pricier side, but heck...

i'm willing to pay a couple of extra dollars if it means that i'll be able to go to work the next day if i lay myself out.
