Bummer!  If anyone wants to come bock in DC for a weekend this summer, let me know.

Moneys tight, vacation is scarce and gas is expensive.  How about we have USA bocking day on Labor day weekend?  Aug 30, 31, Sep 1  Two days of bocking and partying, and one day to recover and return home/to school.  Anyone in for the last weekend of the month?

Seems like 16-17 is not the best choice due to people going to the UK.  I'm seeing two people with stated preference for Aug 9-10... Thats like in Two weeks!  Could everyone make their travel arrangements in time?  23-24 may be more doable in terms of logistics.  Speak up if you haven't already...

We had initially settled on Aug 16-17th.  Was there anything wrong with that weekend?

I'm not the kind of person that knows about the local cheap hotels, but I'm willing to work on it if you send me details from last time.  Who's within 90% chance here?

Also thoughts from anyone who attended last year would be helpful.

Just a reminder for out-of-towners to book your hotels in advance for the best chance of a deal!
6  Purchasing Powerisers / Choosing the Right Model / Re: Poweriser basic vs. Poweriser Advanced (aka '07) on: June 16, 2008, 08:05:43 AM
One of the nice things about the poweriser 08 advanced model is that you can adjust the calf support bars in various ways so it accommodates different people's leg sizes and stances.  For example, if you have skinny legs, you can bring the aluminum bars in a bit for better fit.  Also you can adjust them slightly right or left if you don't have a perfect stance.

I'm interested.  Are all of the visitors planning to stay at the same hotel?

Yeah I think distance-wise we will do pretty well.

This route is about 5 miles, compared to last year's (planned) route of about 14 miles.  As of today, my August is open...

Weather wise, Augusts can be pretty rough for those who are used to New England summers.  Perhaps we should end it at a pool.

Attached is my proposed idea for the primary bock dc route.  It's similar to last year's but hopefully a bit more interesting.

Synopsis:
We meet up at Navy Memorial in a scenic plaza across from the Constitution, At a centrally located subway station.  Free parking near the start line is limited, but usually available weekend days if you are willing to walk for a bit as you drive around to find a spot.  Of if you are in a hurry, there are some pay parking decks which should be reasonable as long as there's no event at the MCI center.

To start, we bock down PA Ave to the front steps of the US capitol.  The stop feature an iconic backdrop and a nice plaza with two steeply perfect sets of stairs.  As of today, the plaza isn't behind the security perimeter.  (Lets hope there aren't any further threat-level changes between now and then).  Then back down the mall past the newest Smithsonian Museum, Theres a few stairs and other features along the building entrances.  Then we go through the plaza of the Ronald Reagan Building to the next stop: Freedom Plaza.  Freedom plaza offers a nice open space and a few terrain features, plus theres a drug store for those that want to stop for hydration or snack.  (In the plaza, we may encounter some of the natives on their quad-wheeled wooden planks from the last century.)  After some quality jumps on a replica map of DC, its a few short blocks to the home/office of the leader where we can enjoy jumping on an abandoned road, inside of a secure perimeter policed by 26 different law enforcement agencies.

Finally we bock up a nice wide sidewalk of Connecticut Ave to end at Dupont Circle, a "cool" area with lots of food options, bars, etc.
10  Powerising / Practising / Re: how old is the oldist person you have seen bocking? on: April 11, 2008, 09:31:03 AM
I'm the only person I've ever seen really bocking, but I had a business guy come out of a meeting/reception wearing a tie and suit and I convinced him to give it a whirl.  He must have been in his 50s.  He was a little drunk, but the courage helped him walk on his own after a few mins (amazingly without falling)

how about a "bocking hotspots" forum where people can post pictures of their favorite places to jump

Let me know if theres anything I can do to help here on the ground.  I am new to bocking but have a pavement level perspective plus some skills that might be useful.

Just came today... Took me about 5 mins to learn the walk, started running a bit and had my 1st fall while running.  It hurt, but I got up with the help of a signpost.  Bocked around the neighborhood for maybe two hours, walking running, up & down hills.  There were lots of people out and about.  They think I'm an alien from the future.
