Powerising / Problems / Re: Top of spring bruising hamstring. Adjustments possible?

After yesterdays 6hr usage, and some progression in my bocking, this is how my hamstrings look this morning..... Interesting that your right leg bruising is more inside of the leg. Maybe just the angle your standing though. Not really of any significance to this thread though. I'ts just interesting.

Powerising / Learning Tips / Re: Home-Made Spotting Harness

It didn't seem like it would be too difficult to build a spotting harness for practicing flips -- .... Seat belt out of a wrecked car. Get both sides of the latch. Go to an upolstry shop to sew the belt together and make you pads. Make sure all sewing uses the "seat belt" stich. Im sure their is a more proper name for it. Basicaly it is a box of stich with an X of stich inside it. Its done with no break in the stich Seat belt is easy to get on and off the tricker and usualy nicely adjustable.

Well shoot..... my whole responce is gone. Wher did it go? Crap..... ok I'll try it again. A few suggestions . No handle; just a rope or strap. The spotting method used with a rig like this is for the spotters to face the direction of flip. They hold as near to the belt on the end of rope as they can BUT...... often this nearest point is nearly 2 to 3 feet away. Has to be so tricker can bong around freely thru a broad range of motion (ROM). As the tricker takes off and begins exicuting a skill the spotter slides one hand along the strap and grabs firmly as close to the belt as they can reach and latches on tightly. While grasped firmly they take some of your weight, move you thru the air to do the skill for you; if your execution is poor, hold you up off your head etc Also the handle as you have it will encourage the spotter to face the trickers side. This will be their weakest position. There will be forces pulling them INTO the tricker and with the feet planted like they will be when facing you they have less chance of working against that force. . longer leads (ropes, straps) from belt to spotter. 3 to 4 feet. you need that distance for ROM (range of motion) such as your prep bounces to the skill. . Comfortable ROPE or straping that is not slick. Something that won't want to pull out of spotters hands and rope burn them. Chain?? not seeing that as workable at all. typical belt on BELT page typical straps on Spot Strap/Rope page

ok sounds like the common injury of trying to stiff arm catch a fall or something along that line.
Sorry it happend to him.
If he was wearing wrist gaurds then the angle he put his arms forward to catch himself put the force into the area that broke and not the wrist.... With his arms more forward or more backward they could have broke at the wrist instead if he was not wearing wrist gaurds. With them and a slight different angle of the arms on the catch W.Gaurds would have probably prevented a wrist break.
With an absorbing pushup action (as opposed to STOP my fall action) of the arms to catch the fall, or other methods, NOTHING would have broke, well better said the odds would have been greatly reduced that nothing would have broke.
Nothing agains your brother.
People just dont know how to fall. Well unless your were one of those kids who figured this out already cause your were a bounce around, ruff and tumble maniac kind of kid most your life anyway and/or have done some higher level athletics.

Not knowing how he actually landed and which way (fwd or bkwrd) he fell I can't speculate butttttt.... again would really like to see folk put together a HOW TO FALL video that shows methods to catch oneself in a way that minimalizes injury.
I would be HAPPY to help!! I teach how to fall to tumblers. Just got to brainstorm with some Bockers to adapt what I teach to Bocking. some of it needs to be modified to fit the extra height and Im not experienced enough to see these adaptations clear enough in my mind yet.
Broken elbows I really feel are very much into the completely preventable injury catagory with proper fall techniques and of course proper safety equipment minimalizes things even more. Wearing safety gear is added protection that can make up for "some" errors in catching a fall.

a Scorpian
and yeah it can hurt put a real tweak on ya. Sometimes for days. Sometimes for 6-8 weeks. Its sorta is like a lower back whiplash in how it affects you.

Powerising / Practising / Fall Recovery Skill Video

Just throwing this idea out there.
IMHO we really need a videos that are breefing newbies (and reminding others) how to best recover from falls. There has been some mentions of broken arms lately where the injury sounded to me as being preventable if they new the right way(s) to fall.
I dont have a video camera.
So anyone up to throwing out their ideas with video example on how to practice falling?
Feel free to message me for ideas. I teach fall recovery but a good bit of it would have to be modified for stilts. Though the on ground basics would be a good start as well.

Purchasing Powerisers / Choosing the Right Model / Re: Am I going to kill myself with these?

one relationship to fitness level not hit here in this topic yet is "athletic experience"
If your not fit cause for what ever reason you just never got into an athletic environment...... then their is another issue to consider. FALL RECOVERY. A non athlete (present or past), often does not have these fall recovery skills so they are more liable to get hurt from falls.
Make sure you practice falling. How to aborb inpact such as bending arms in a push up catch as you fall forward in stead of stiff arming the ground and breaking wrist and/or elbows.
Another common mistake is reward falls. Sticking the arms out backward to catch your fall with the fingers pointed rearward instead of forward. Nasty breaks occur on that one.
As much as we talk about this .... we need a FALL RECOVERY Video. There has been several broken arms mentioned in here where such a video might could have prevented if they practiced what they saw. Thats for another thread though. Think I'll start one
BTW I'm 46 but in way better shape than typical. Don't claim to be athletic..... just trained hard to get what little I got.

BTW at 80lbs you would be wise to be training in Acrobatic Gymnastics, Artistic Gymnastics, or Tumble and Trampoline. These are all sports under the World Gymnastic umbrella. With you being intrested in Bocks I doubt your a non athlete and with your body type... if you like flipping and stuff.... its just a good place to put yourself. Can only help any thing you like to do like Bocking. Granted Im biased. Let me know I can help you find a place to look into training.
