I busted the buckles on my bocks
and changed them to burton bindings
soooo much better

I didn't bust mine but changed them for Burton bindings before ever using them, after reading the posts about this problem here.
Here's what they look like now:

He may not be but I am. I am reopening this topic because its title is exactly what my post is about.

Ok, so I have decided to get some of those pit dirt shin pads because the knee guards I have at the moment keep riding up making the knee bar loose and the buckles behind them cut the skin on the sides of my shins. What winds me up is the doubled strap that goes behind the knee. It works well other than the clasp which keeps coming undone. Can anyone suggest a mod for that please?

I have a pair of modified PoweriZer M90's and I recently bought myself a pair of PoweriSer PR7090's. I went out on the PR7090's for about 20 mins yesterday and then gave up on them. I found the calf-cuff to be impossible to fully tighten and even after getting it as tight as it would go it loosened itself after roughly 30 seconds of jumping. I tried running in them and found my legs to be all over the place.

Now before anyone comes hunting for my blood, I sell Powerisers for a living and fully believe in their superior quality when compared with anything produced by FlyJumper (formerly Flying Locust). I weigh 85 kg so the problem may have been that I'm almost at the limit of the PR7090's because I have to admit the springs were very lively, trying to bounce with almost no effort whatsoever. I also recognise that there are tons of Poweriser users out there who would swear by them because they are so happy with them. Witness the RiseUp team videos. I mean you can't do all those somersaults if your calf-cuff can't hold you correctly.

Anyway, I went home and switched to my Powerizer M90's. It was a completely different ball game and I felt instantly stable with my knee being held firmly in place. I think that the main problem here is that I'm used to using the Powerizers and am comfortable on them. The Powerisers were brand new and perhaps needed time to adapt to their way of holding me in place. And maybe if I add a neoprene knee protector the calf-cuff will tighten up better.

I doubt my comments have been much use to you. I cannot comment on fraying because mine are brand new. Currenty, my bottom line is that although more comfortable and faster to load yourself into, the calf-cuff has yet to convince me ...but it could, it certainly could!

p.s. the fastening strap is absolute crap! I have nothing against velcro fastening but they could have designed it so that it wrapped around snugly instead of having to be twisted to fit either above or below the leg brace. For example, it could have been divided into 2 halves so that one part went above the knee brace and the other part below it. Or why not abandon the velcro altogether and use a ratchet clasp similar to that used to hold the shoe down with?

My girlfriend has a set of those Kangaboots, the little springloaded boots the girls were in on one of the snippets. I've tried them but they got nothing on PRs!!

They are called Kangoo Jumps. I have a pair of the Pro version which are quite nice, if you like running because despite popular opinion, they are NOT made for jumping with. I used to get fed-up with people stopping me and asking "how high can you jump with those?" They do however, give you a nice spring in your step which makes you travel further than you would in regular running shoes. I have been out running on my Powerizers most of this afternoon and there is just no comparison, except that I find you get a better workout on Kangoos than you do on jump stilts, but then I never do any flips so I may be wrong about that.

Can one compare Kangoos to jump stilts? Well yes if they are both to be used for marathon training or similar. But if it's about jumping and doing acrobatics you can kiss Kangoos goodbye because you can't do either with them.

And for what it's worth, I think that RiseUp videos are generally very good and have a good range of music to them. And the Poweriser Showteam are a credit to both France and the bocking industry as a whole. Don't get me wrong, I think there are plenty of very competent people praticing this sport, many of them are members of this community. It's just that anyone doing this with good technique and style should be acknowledged for their merits, not criticised negatively. If you want to criticise someone negatively then get someone to video me when I'm out on mine. I suck big time! But I'm only a beginner and an old man to boot. I get plenty of positive criticism for having the balls to get involved. And let's face it, most look on and say it looks amazing but ask them if they would like to try and they go all shy on you. Wink

I really feel for you. That's pretty evil. Try taking up something a little less demanding for a while.

Incidentally, talking about shocks, I read about the addition of a flip-flop to the footplate to absorb some of the shock when pounding the heel down to get better height and have applied that mod to mine. But I was wondering if anyone has tried adding sorbothane (not composite) to their footplates or as insoles? Americans are really lucky because in Europe this is only available as ready made insoles costing a packet! In the US it can be bought in 12" squares for $19.95 and that is enough to cover both footplates. In theory, the addition of sorbothane should absorb any remaining shock entirely.

When I was in my early 30's I used to do freestyle jetskiing and even crossed the English Channel once. I was also a snow and water skier but neither of those hammered my knees as much as jetskiing. If anyone had given me a warning about what could/would happen to my knees later on in life, it would surely have fallen on deaf ears. I'm sure we can all relate to the overpowering sensation of having fun weighed against being reasonable. Youngsters just aren't reasonable. When you are young and feel no pain, you live for the day and couldn't give a rat's backside about what may happen in the future. And so it was, that in my late 40's, the pain began. Sometimes I can't even walk downstairs without my right knee giving me hell.

So now I'm bocking. So far I find that the springs absorb the shocks although my right hip complains after about 20 mins, and I have never had trouble with my hips up to now.

I have not seen any of these posts concerning knee injuries. How do you injure your knees when bocking; is it falling on them, twisting them, or are we talking about shocks from jumping?

p.s. At 52 years of age you would think I have learned my lesson, but no, even now I take the attitude I WILL STOP WHEN MY BODY PHYSICALLY SAYS "YOU CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE!"

Joking apart, if you are having that trouble you might want to consider taking glucosamine tablets and green-lipped mussel extract oil. They will give you back the fluidity in your joints. Other than that, it sounds like you have arthrosis. So do I but at present it only really gives me trouble with my right knee, right hip, right shoulder, and neck.

Hi Bill. Yep, came out of plaster 2 weeks ago. Back on the bocks 3 days later. Bit frightened following the last experience so haven't dared to run yet and I can't jump without holding onto something. Sorry state of affairs really.

Other than that, left wrist seems to be working almost normally but, right wrist consistently gives pain and for reasons unbeknown to me, makes a clicking sound when I turn it to the left, followed by a sharp pang of pain. I'm undergoing physio so hopefully all will improve given time.

G'day mate!

What you are supposed to do and what you can physically do are two entirely different matters.

You are running and you trip. Your body is way above the ground. The force of gravity combined with forward motion make you fall forwards with the axis being at the base of the stilts (the hooves). Instinctively, you put your hands in front of you to break the fall, but if you tried to land on your knees instead, the first part of your body to make contact with the ground would be your face!

Wife: "OMG, have you been through the car's windshield ...where are all your teeth?"
Bocker: "Do you have to be so dramatic? At least my wrists aren't broken!!" :lol:

oh yea... it takes you high above the trees... either he's a giant or the trees are less than a few feet tall

He's probably confused with the jet pack as worn by James Bond back in the 60's, more recently seen as a mod in the video game GTA San Andreas.
Or maybe he's just a dreamer! Whatever, he forgot to mention that apart from all the usual protective gear, it's also advisable to wear a parachute. Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!!

i'm glad to see more people wearing helmets, i don't think enough people do.

Yesterday, we did an initiation session for the kids at a street sports festival. I was invited by our local extreme sports association. I told him I was only going to offer Junior pairs as they were safer and would oblige the use of wrist, knee, and elbow guards. He said I had to make helmets compulsory also and explained that while a broken bone will repair, the likelihood of brain damage following a head injury is high, and that cannot be repaired, so by law in France helmets are compulsory when dealing with loan or rental.

On reflection, I think he is right. No matter what height you fall from, it's just not worth the risk to not wear a helmet.
