Powerising should be made a sport!
Powerskips were originally patented in 1999 and available on the market in 2000 but at this time they were very uncommon and expensive at about £800.
In 2003 the idea was copied in the Far East and several mass produced brands started becoming available, costing less than half the price of the originals. These became much more popular as they were a more reasonable price for younger people to afford.
Now in 2007 there are several brands of stilts coming from the same factory and 3 other stilts being manufactured in their own factories, these are obviously of better quality and higher in price.
You can now buy a pair of children stilts for only £115 and adult stilts for £135 so with the huge drop in prices more people are purchasing them and it is becoming much more widespread around the world.
Individuals have tried to set up clubs where people can come along and try the stilts to see if they like them before spending over a hundred pounds on a pair. When trying to acquire a grant from the government, who have recently being pushing for new sports clubs to open, they got turned down because they claimed the sport wasn’t well known enough to qualify for the funding.
The council have to have guidelines about what things are accepted sports otherwise scam artists will be making up allsorts of sports and applying for funding every other week. The downside is if your sport is not on the list then they won’t even contemplate you.
The main question is how do you define a sport???
The dictionary defines a sport as:
“An athletic activity requiring skill or physical
exercise and often of a competitive nature”
Sourced from
www.dictionary.comPowerising has both skills involved and is a great form of physical exercise:
Some people are known to be able to walk straight away but others have to learn to walk on the stilts which can take from 10mins to 1 hour depending on confidence and skill. To be able to run and jump takes a great deal of practice and even more to learn front and back flips.
Powerising is good for general health and is very beneficial form of exercise as it focuses on twice the amount of muscles that would be used when running normally.
Therefore because it follows the same concept as other well known sports and involves skill and physical exercise, it should be recognised by the government as a sport that could, if wanted, apply for grants.
(This is the final copy for those interested, i know some bits may be a bit exagerated and some even made up but it gets me the mark
