a person from southend on powerisers has made it into the news...
unfortunately not a good way.

ian shannon is a guy in southend trying to promote and sell poweriZers.
we have met him a few times.

he was stopped trying to board the train on powerisers and has now been banned from traveling.
this is what the paper said...

Quote
IAN Shannon has been banned from travelling on c2c because he has a spring in his step, literally.

The 33, was stopped from travelling at Southend Central Station when a railway official pointed out the Powerizer stilts he was wearing could be a safety hazard.

Mr Shannon, of Cobham Road, Westcliff, said he was prevented from boarding a train while wearing them, despite having travelled four times previously without being approached.

He said: "I was told I couldn't use them on the platform due to the danger they posed, but they are really safe to use and not dangerous to walk on. You can even go up and down stairs with them.

"I was told to remove them, but it is a lot of trouble to take them off and put them back on again.

"I was angry because I was refused travel. They are not a danger."

Powerizer stilts are a new trend started in the USA and now equally popular in Japan allowing users to jump up to 6ft high off the ground and run at speeds between 20-30 mph.

Spokeswoman for c2c, Rebecca Richardson, confirmed that Mr Shannon had been refused travel after he was seen fitting on his stilts on the platform and had his fare refunded.

"We take safety very seriously and we do not want passengers to face any risks.

"When you have trains pulling in and out, to be on something as unsure as stilts is hazardous.

"Also, there are overhead cables and signs that could cause injury to someone who is significantly taller.

"We have the same rules preventing people travelling while cycling or on skateboards and rollerblades for the same reason."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Some newspapers seriously need to do better research on these things.
Started in the USA?! They originate in Germany!
I assume they got the "equally popular" in Japan bit from all the photos of Korean people on them that poweriSer put out as advertising Cheesy

Sorry, I just couldn't resist Tongue

I think thats pretty crap, but also understandable. Whenever I've gone on the train I have never worn mine for exactly that reason, they could be classed as dangerous and I could get kicked off  the train. However, I know tundraH has ridden buses in Bournemouth multiple times with no problems!

I for one agree that sprog is gay. This is an absolute outrage.

Well, ignoring the glaring journalistic errors in that piece, (invented in America and mostly popular in Japan, excuse me?)  I can't say I blame them, banning someone from going into a shop is one thing but as they say there are train power lines running overhead and if he fell into the track because he stumbled a bit then they would take the blame.  Also was he actually putting them on ON the platform whilst waiting for a train, that was very silly Tongue

Its a shame though but hey, at least the paper stayed fairly impartial, I bet even this kind of publicity makes people think about them and could even tempt people enough to buy a pair Cheesy

edit : damn you sprog!  Type slower next time so I can reply first Grin

fair play i reckon... if the guy fell onto the track and died everyone would be pointing the finger and saying "why was he even allowed to wear them in the station?". Honestly though, do you really need to wear them on a train? It aint like you can bock much in a carriage! And the guy reportedly was putting them on AT the station, meaning what? That he walked to train station carrying bocks and put them on to get on a train?! Each to their own but sounds mad as a bag of badgers to me Smiley

Well  they ban cycling and skateboards but  for different reasons ( they wouldnt stop  some1 in football kit carrying a ball i asume), just as they ban knives and being nekkid and drunk for different reasons (sometimes officials can be real lazy in thier reasoning when they know they have the power to say NO for pretty much no reason)  and powerlines shouldnt be low enuff for a person jumping on stilts to touch - should be much much higher.  That said they r entitled to ask 1 to remove them ( its private property). Equally the guy should have requested a  H&S survey be done.

A senario ---a group of very 'tired and emotional ' young ladies enter the station wishing to get the last train home --- station master/mistress demands they take their stillies off cos they might fall off them and hurt themselves or others. No wouldnt happen.  But a sober person on stilts  is stopped.

I dunno if im becoming a grumpy old git or more left wing in my nearly but not quite almost middle ageness. But I really really object to this authoritarian nannyness nonoism. my rule now,  agree ones, but ask for reasoning  and ask for a contact number to get a written reasoning and to get a reavaluation and for an apeal, request/demand a risk analysis and point out infringement of civil liberties.

Erring on the side of caution I fully agree with --blind ignorance I will not tolerate

This railway spokeperson stated the guy was banned for safty reasons --- but was he a danger? ( possibly i dunno -tho i will admit to getting on a train with 3 other bockers at waterloo - but only cos we were l8 and didnt want to miss it, and we got no comments) who knows? cos as I see it reasons stated dont stack up but there may be some other  as yet unknown un stated 1's

I wouldn't blame the station here a mite Q, they probably think what they have to do is as stupid as everyone else.

The problem is these idiots who seem to be all to prevalent in Britain these days, who will sue for anything, if he had bashed his head on some guttering or something which was slightly too low many lawyers would have had no problem deciding to take that to court on the grounds that he had recieved "head injuries which gave him such a great headache he had to stay off work for a day".

I worked on the rail for a while and I think the main danger is that if a 6ft + person stands on the edge of the platform and stretches an arm above and out his fingers can never get closer than 6ft ( I seem to remember ) from the overhead powerlines

Now on a wet day and with all the right conditions the power in those lines can jump 3ft so you have a 3ft safety margin

Add 18"stilts and you've halfed that margin jump 9" of the ground and alow for me being 6ft 4" and having long arms and guess what you've got

Yes folks KENTUCKY FRIED BOCKER i want a leg (or maybe a breast depending on who gets fried)

Oh and if you do touch one of those lines (the safety officer on site told us) it takes half a second for your body to reach the temperature that it will take a fire hose to put you out so an elastoplast ain't gonna help

It all depends who is incharge and what sort of mood they are in.  I have got on to a yellow bus 4 times with my Bocks on but one time I was told to remove them.  It is all down to the person in power not having a power trip.

Go Q, I hate the nanny state too.  Fight the system people, fight it.
