My 2month old PowereSer PR5070 2008's were squeaking a bit so I oiled the moving bits (bearings/bushings?) with some light bike oil stuff and now there's weird black oily substance creeping from them  Shocked Undecided!

Anyone know if PoweriSer PR5070 2007/8's have the same 'grease layer'? as the 7leagues - Martin mentioned it : 'need more height...'.
Will this do any damage? I'm a little concerned!

Cheers

Well, that is quite interesting, because I have the original powerisers and swapped in the new '08 bushings and I got the black oil leaking out, also.  The thing is, there is no oil in the bushing as they are simple assembled in parts as you install them.  I also lubricated mine with a clear oil gel when I installed them, so my guess is the oil has reacted a little with the black plastic bushing cradle under it, or the black plastic is slowly wearing and basically black plastic dust is showing up in the bushing oil as it slowly works its way onto the outside surface of the stainless steel bushing.  It doesn't seem to create any real problem.

are the new bushings plastic? or metal this time? or even some sort of alien hybrid? lol....

i know that certain oils can actually damage plastics and break them down.

There's plastic in the classic bearings. They are plastic for a reason in the old ones, I have an example, but no camera. Might post it later if I feel like it.

The new ones are all metal.

The only plastic in the new ones is the black plastic cradle they sit in where they contact the spring.

And that isn't a moving part.  Neither does it support much load.  If the spacer were metal, it would get bent and scratch the spring.  it touches the bushings, but plays no role in their movement

I have a question about the bearings on the new ones. If the original bearings get worn out can i replace them with bearing that is made out of steel?

They shouldn't get worn out. If they do, contact the dealer, but don't go metal. Trust me. (now I really need a camera to show)

they won't wear out, and the new ones are steel, the black gunk seems to build up inside mine too, i'm not sure if its scrapings from the plastic spacer or steel on steel wear, but i wipe it off every time i take them apart and it comes back, its nothing to worry about.

Yep, black gunk is the norm, once sprayed with GT85 or WD40.
Same as any door hinge or padlock. Nothing to worry about at all. (other than dirty fingers). Smiley

Here's my theory:
Your shiney bearings and assemblies would have been lightly greased when new. This would pick up dust and small particles of muck.
Through use, the components rub on one another, wearing each other away and creating more tiny particles of paint and metal.
Eventually, enough tiny bits of muck and debris build up between the moving parts, that the squeeking and honking noise's start.
You squirt your lubrication of choice at the bearings, and this flushes out all these tiny particles.

Don't use WD40 on your bocks!  Always use Graphite spray if you have to lubricate!  WD40 will attract muck and make things worse for you in the long run.

Actually, WD40 will repel dust. It's an old trick from my RC racing days, but to get it to work right, you spray the WD40 on a brush, then brush it on what you want lubed. It has silicone in it and it will repel dust and grime.
