No, I'm saying they're already listening to it because it's "cool".  Were this an event put on by the City or by a School, I'd absolutely agree that rap has no place, or any music labelled with "Explicit lyrics", though I suspect many parents don't actually read the labels on things they give their children.

But it's not, It's a corporate event, and the radio stations are the advertisers.  I fully support your boycott of the event, but the only way the (hip-hop) culture is going to change is if you get the kids' idols (rappers) to change their music, or seriously talk about how children shouldn't emulate them.

I'm not trying to argue about how futile it is to try to limit a kids' experiences, or how I place the blame on the parents, and at a certain age the kids as well.  I was simply pointing out that rap music is out there, and it's got a relatively large following and related culture.

Sorry.  Thought your point was that I shouldn't boycott it and to just get used to it.  My mistake.

Nono, I have a problem with accurately representing my opinions.

Well, I'm not only boycotting it on principle, but also because I'm now not sure what kind of element that type of music is going to attract to the event.  I don't need small mobs insisting on trying my stilts.  Best to just avoid.

If I may interject...

They were here in Boston and they were grouped up with "108.9" and they play the same type of stuff, but the stuff they were playing wasn't anything like that...

perhaps the same will happen in NYC?

Hello POWERISERS,

After reading the remarks made about the Pro Challenge, I wanted to reply to clarify the event structure and purpose.

The POWERade Pro Challenge is meant to be a really fun interactive 3-sport (football, basketball, and baseball) challenge where winners will be awarded with very exciting prizes -- including playing ball with the POWERade Pros such as Shawne Merriman, Carmelo Anthony and Ryan Howard.

It’s been a very successful event in other markets where we’ve had huge crowds of kids participate --and hope you join as we think it would be a really fun event for you to participate in!

Part of the program is to have music that creates buzz and excitement to the event and therefore we’ve have partnered with POWER 105.1 because it appeals to POWERade’s demographic.

However, because the target audience will include a lot of children -- we plan to play music that will be kid-friendly and appropriate.

POWERade’s goal is to give consumers a great-tasting sports drink that provides the body with hydration and the added benefits of energy, electrolytes and key nutrients.

The invitation has been offered for POWERISERS to join.  However, if you decide not to participate then we thank you for your consideration.

Best,

Vanessa
