you wont always find somewhere to practice. I didnt have anywhere to practice other than some grass at times when I started out, same as evilmark. Just gotta work with what you got, and do the best you can! Save doing anything bigger until you have more people and a place to go with them.

If you're just after a covered open space to train in try local halls, church halls, youth centres (do they still exist?) etc.

Worth a try

oo Ollie  I can see the JJ's comming back to Dorchester if we can use a foam pit  Grin

As for heads being 'knobs' or someshuch.  Still try him/her. There have been a few comments on the site of teachers and schools being very supportive. With most teachers its just an act they put on ( think they may be all allocatted style at Teach Training skewl and have to keep it all thier working lives)

Forget about asking the head teacher.  Go straight to the Phys Ed (Gym) teacher and give him a quick demo.  Then ask HIM if you can practice there.  Phys Ed teachers should be able to understand and appreciate the health benefits.

Another option is to approach a local in-door tennis facility that my be in your area and ask if you can rent some court time at the hourly rate.  They won't have mats, but at least the place will be warm and dry with a lot of space for you to bock around.

Local colleges/universities also usually have very nice facilities that you may be able to use.

Go in there saying you have a job you need to train for. tell them you will sign any papers they want you to, saying they are not lieable if you get hurt.

Sorry to hear about the news flybaby.  Not much you can do when faced with that much negativity about it.  The attitude of the school is most likely based on insurance liability issues.  They just probably view it the same way they would if someone asked to practice skateboarding in the gym.  Pretty narrow-minded on their part, but in cases of insurance liability it is really the insurance company that sets the rules for the school.  If the school doesn't adhere to the requirements of the liability coverage, the insurance company can drop their coverage.  And if your entire school district uses the same insurance company, all schools could be affected.  The world is often more complicated than it appears to be.

Good luck in finding a place to train.
