ok. i got my PoweriSer 70-90's not long ago and have learned to walk, jog and hop a little bit. but now i want to go higher. the problem is my confidence aint too good and my stability in the air still has its flaws. so i figured that maybe asking on here for help might solve the problem.
thanks for any suggestions.

  SCOTT-D-

ps. any tips on how to get up by myself would be really good as i feel a bit embarrased when i go down and am unable to get back up without help as i am a bit short in the leg department.
thanks again

The first thing any noob needs to do is a little research, which is very easy. I will make it a little easier....http://www.PoweriserPages.com/knowledge/ Click on that link and read through everything that you feel might be of help. Once you have done that and still feel like there is something missing then post again with something more specific....I hope that helps.

The more you bock the more natural it will feel....its all about practice, practice and a little more practice

Hey Scott.

Tell me about it! Im a bit (short) in the leg department too, but i dont let that stop me Wink.
Although if i do fall i probably cant get back up again......but i havent fallen yet! Smiley.
I have (tried) to mod mine but using the good old flip flops but they arent thick enough at the moment, so i think i'll have to move on to usuing the MDF wood someone told me. Apparently it doesnt look as good but its great help.

I wouldn't use MDF... It's a heavy and fairly brittle material. I would go with somethign made out of one peice, so if you're gunna use wood, a 2x4 or 2x6 made out of hard wood would probably be your best bet.

Careful when you use wood Powergirl, the footplate isn't exactly flat, it has a slope near the toe. If you have a belt sander it will work, but wood will get rid of lots of your grip. Using the wood will get rid of that slope. Stay with foam if you can

Anyway scott, it all comes down to being confident. Maybe you should practice falling in grass to see that it isn't so bad (it isn't Smiley )
Also, wear pads, elbow knee wrist. They are all very important (even though some people may disagree with elbow pads. I find them to be very important because you aught not to be landing on your wrists, far too prone to breakage)

Also, if you want height, PUSH DOWN ON YOUR HEELS Smiley. You seee, i heard this  piece of advice, but realized i wasn't using it. REally push down on your heels but no tto the point that you will hurt yourself (i.e. hyper extended knees and just falling)

Use your arms to balance yourself.

Check out the jumping tutorial, you will see. It might be in the knowledge section or on this forum somewhere, I'm just too lazy to look for it. Tongue

As you practice, you will gain confidence. Confidence is the most important. The more confident you are, the more height you will get. Wink

Hi Scott, well you have mastered the first steps of bocking. But i guess you wanna learn how to jump?! Well i find it made it easier when i had someone to hold my hands as i jumped, get them to stand in front of you and gradually start bouncing up and down, then when you get a bit more confident, really start planting yourself into the ground, you may be scared at first, but hey thats what the person in front is there for, let him or her take your weight and if they trust you which im sure they are, use all your weight to push yourself into the ground and let yourself go! I've had a bit of Jagermeister tonite so i might not have total attention to detail, but hey live long and fast and enjoy everything. Little tipsy lots of love jelly xxx

holding on to a fence/person/pole while you learn to jump is a great way to build up conficence and learn to use your springs. once you get comfortable, try letting go but stay close so you can grab it if you need to.

Lol Janelle it looks like you're getting progressively drunker as you write!  Your next message will be "f***in' bosh upmeister jump big freshman crowbar innit..."

I'm a total noob too, having just gotten my bocks 2 days ago.  For jumping, I went with the "have a stationary object in front of you" strategy that Xarnu recommended.  I just trust an unmoving object more than a person, whose strength may not be enough to keep me up if I come down hard.  Maybe if I had some experienced bocker/tumbler friends it would be different.

I've been using a cyclone fence with a bar going across the top.  It's sturdy, but if I fall and hit the fence it won't hurt as much (hopefully) as face-vaulting into a brick wall.  I start off by holding onto the bar and jumping, then move on to barely touching the bar, and then move my hands away and only touch it when I come down to steady myself a little, and finally I don't touch the bar at all, unless I lose my balance.

Re falling:  I know how you feel.  I'm really scared to fall on pavement.  Last night I went to a big, wide-open grassy area, and just practiced falling (with the proper safety equipment) over and over and over.  Do it about 20 times, and you'll realize that you ain't gonna get hurt falling (at least not on grass).  Soon I will try the same practice on pavement.   Now that I know how to fall (kneepads-elbowbads-wrist protectors, in that order but at almost the same time, thinking of yourself as a bow rolling from end to end) hopefully I can handle pavement.

Getting up, in the agregate, is tougher than falling down.

The 'unstableness' maybe a little basic techneque error. Make sure you are not looking at yur feet look ahea  , othrwise you bend the body over and centre of gravity moves foreward and eventually after a few bounces you loose control. Dittobounce thru heels not toes.

Again try to jump 'up'over and onto things, dont look at the object, again  1 looses height that way.

Try a game of 'catch' or bounce a ballof a wall. Makes you look up and 'foreget' about the stilts.

If you could post a vid that would be a great help. Then we can get a better idea of the 'stage' you are at then tailor advice better
