Since my work on my velocity stilt mod has been delayed due to the discovery that my knee bars were different sizes, I had to come up with a mod to replace the stock velcro strap, because i ripped it off.  I had tried dominion's knee mod a few weeks ago, and found it to be the most secure strap I'd tried, but it was very uncomfotable.  So i used a similar idea to creat a mod that was secure and comfotable.  PoweriZers have 2 rivets on each side of the velcro strap so i removed the rivets and put zip ties in the holes to hold on the stock toe strap. This created the same security as dom's mod with out the discomfort because it is mounted in the stock location.

I would only reccomend this mod if you know that you have the double rivets (PoweriZers), to my knowlege Powerisers only have one rivet on each side and one in the middle of the bar, I don't know about flyjumpers.  You could drill a second hole yourself, not a bad idea if the stock strap broke, cause you've got nothing to lose either way. Adding another hole isn't going to weaken the bar,  PoweriZers have 2 holes from the factory so I wouldn't worry about that.  Also for comfort reasons, you will probably only want to use this with kneepads that cover your entire leg, or pants, it might hurt the back of your leg if there's nothing there.

I've got lots more pic and will post a tutorial if you want one.

edit: I just got in from my first full power test of this mod, they are as great as i though they'd be.   They locked my legs into the knee bar and never slipped or loosened as straps are likely to do.  I might stop work on my velocity stilt mod when i get my new knee bars that are (hopefully) the same size.

That is looking pretty secure.
About the powerisers:
There are 3 small metal plates on each kneebrace, supporting the original strap. Each plate is attached with 2 rivets, so i think that it is the same as the powerizers.
This is how mine was - But they might have changed it(I think mine are an old model)

ok so everyone can do this mod, the only big disadvantage is that if you don't like it you can't go back to stock like with dom's mod.   The difference with PoweriZers is that the strap isn't one piece, the the velcro part and the part with the metal loop are not attached uner the foam, they just go to the rivets and then stop.

Actually, you can go back to the original velcro strap configuration if you use one long strap.  Just secure it to the inside circumferance of the knee loop with some zip-ties.

Bill C.,

Does this mean that you prefer the velcro system over installing a ratchet system?

I just picked up a $2 snowboard at a yard sale this weekend that I intend to cannibalize for bindings.  The biggest drawback to bocking IMHO is the time it takes to gear up and a big chunk of that time is tying up my knees with webbing.  The stock velcro alone doesn't hold my knees as well as I would like.

The problem with the yard sale snowboard I have is that the ratcheting straps are not screwed onto the base where the boot goes, they are riveted so there doesn't seem to be a nice way to take them off without doing some damage to them.  If I could unscrew them, the screw hole would be intact and I could pass the zip ties through it.  I'm afraid I may damage the holes where the rivets go in the process of detaching them from the base.

Any ideas?  Who else has tried this knee mod?  What are your thoughts?  Is it worth the trouble?  Are we better off sticking with the Velcro (no pun intended)?

Dominion is the expert when it comes to the foot strap to knee strap mod - so I defer to him.  I personally haven't tried it yet.  I have replaced the factory velcro strap with a heavier duty velcro strap that works well for me.  I was just making the point that, if you didn't like the foot > knee strap mod for some reason, you could still revert back to a velcro strap system if you ever wanted to.

To my knowlege I'm the only one using the knee mod above, I love it, it's quick to put on, holds very tight, and i've had no problems with it.  It is very simmilar to Dominion's origonal knee mod so people that have used it would most likely have similar experience.  I just did this because i didn't like the strange way dom's straps wraped around from the front of the knee bar.  I have also notice that when i let my friends try these they do encounter problems if they have very skinny legs because they cannot tighten down as far before they hit the inside of the knee loop.  I have very large legs and they work great for me so just be warned of that if you want to try this mod

to remove rivits i would get a electric drill with a small bit, and drill through the middle, this should detach the rivit, hope this works and helps, keep us posted

Hope this helps, its a bit cack for an image but a 2 minute job.

If you're still getting bruises, do what I do and thats to put on knee pads, then your  's, this should offer loads of protection.

Well as dead as this thread, is i've improved on this mod ever so slightly. I'm going to try and describe this because i don't have a camera on hand. If you unscrew the actual buckler off the binding and drill a new hole further back on the binding and attach it about halfway back on the strap, you can us the snowboard style straps on the knees even with the skinniest of legs. If anyone cares i can get some pictures if requested.

As a review of XS's mod overall i love it, i was using some poorly thrown together versions of pinhead's straps but i like these way better.
