Ice helps heal.  It is as an anti-inflamitory.  When you have less inflamation things heal better.  BTW.... heat increases inflamation.  Don't heat an "injury".

For example.... often pain relievers are often in large part an anti-inflamitory med. along with a pain reliver, like  Asprin and Motrin.

I use knee pads (cheap ones) in the space between the knee bar and my knee. The pads are slightly angled..umm wait ill draw a picture with chars... lol    What is this "hinged knee braces"? Can you link me a picture or something?

A photo of your setup would be easier to see than your keyed drawing.  You should position your knee pad UNDER the knee loop if the pad is long enough.

But better would be a hinged knee brace.  Here is a recent thread that discussed it with a link to a page of braces.

If you are going to use knee pads, I would recommend getting better ones.  Those look very thin and it looks like the bottom edge of the pad is just barely under the knee loop - and in that position the edge may be digging into and applying pressure on your patella ligament.

they are only in use for riding my bike ( DH riding. not to go to somerfield)

when i first started riding only my knee got sore bad from a hyper extension from my noob balance issues but they got sore from just heavy and hard use. My Powerisers are for people 154 to soemthing and i only weigh 146 so they are still a bit stiff. i have to jump down extra hard to get the bounce i want so my muscles are extra sore, o well, bigger muscles = more weight.

My stilts are 70-90kg while I'm at 73kg, so I suppose mine are pretty stiff too. I was out jumping for almost an hour my first real try and I think that was a mistake. I will go easier now, take maybe 20mins first few days then increase time steady.
My knee is better now, I can practice other things and walking doesnt hurt, but I cant jumping with stilts will hurt. I still feel pain when I put too much presure on the knees so I'll wait some more time.
Everytime I walk pass them I just wanna grab them and go outside =\

At the weekend i was out a good couple of hours and found that my knees started to hurt when i locked my legs out straight (in the bit between the top of your skin bone and below the knee cap). i've only had em a week or so, so my thought is my knees arn't used to it. Anyone else had this problem?

Maybe you've extended your knee too much too many times?
I've learned to take it easy when you do new stuff anyway, especially if you have had problems/injuries before Smiley Maybe you should take it slower too?

I'm in worse shape than I thought - I was beat after only about 30 mins on bocks!  I started this week wearing 5 lb ankle weights all day at work (I sit at my desk most of the day, but up and down two long flights of stairs, and then walking to lunch.)  Seems to be working some as my legs are a bit sore in the evening.  I just sound like I have maracas strapped to my feet!  Cheesy

i'm thinking of getting some braces to prevent this happening again can anyone suggest any? i was looking at these:

Well, that brace is certainly better than nothing and the manufacturer claims "Level 3" protection for ACL / PCL protection -- basically hyper-extension.  You have to understand that even though this type of brace has a hinge down both sides, the rest of it is material - not hard fiberglass - and therefore may have some play and be able to stretch a little.  I think this type of knee brace will probably provide a decent degree of hyper-extension protection for the average bocker - but with no guarantee.  But again... much better than having no hyper-extension protection at all.

It seems like it reduces the presure, but not preventing hyper extension very good because it is single hinged.
Does it hurt if you walk on you heels? I had that kind of crap

yeah hurts when i walk on heels, but mainly when my legs are fully extended (i'm walking round with semi bent legs)

any suggestions on braces then without spending crazy money?
