Hey don't give up, especially if you're walking.  I walked 12 miles on mine one day and I had only had about six hours of prior experience.  I was pretty much dead by the end of the day, but I did a good deal of running and jumping too and my muscles weren't ready for it yet.  At a walking pace the bocks don't need much extra energy because they swing forward like a pendulum, but running is very draining because you actually have to pull the ten pounds forward with every stride, much faster than they swing normally.  Once you get the right musculature, it shouldn't be much harder than normal walking, especially given the somewhat greater distance per stride.  A pair with pivoting footplates would make this easier, though.  I have only ever used the same model you have, but if you can find some PoweriZer pivoting footplates as spare parts, it would probably be worth the money to see if they fit on the Poweriser frame, which they probably do.

Good luck!

OOHEE! Mods!  What kind?  TELL US if you find that pivoting footplates are compatible with your frames, because I really wanna know.  I like to walk and run around on my bocks all day, and there's nothing I want more than to replace my current footplates with pivoting ones.  By the way, I will walk as much as 10 miles in a day (on the exact same bocks that you have) with little consequence in the way I feel the next day, and I don't do any training, so don't lose hope for your trip.

Wow, ive just finished reading this thread, what inspirational stuff.
theres one thing i would like to mention.....
i really think that hill training, up and down should be at the forfront of your bocking practice.
i can bock for a few hours on flat surfaces without worry but i went for "a walk" the other day and just about made it to the bottom of the hill as the muscles to the outside of my shins were killing me, i expect this was to do with the gradient of the hill and me trying to keep a reasonable speed down it, not gain to much speed like.

but i think what you are aiming for here is wonderful, congratulations on "getting back on your feet" so to speak as i read you were homeless.
its a shame theres not more people with your frame of mind around.

I once read in a hiking magazine that every pound on your feet equals out to be five extra pounds on your back, im not sure if this is true or how it works so either way go for as light of bocks and shoes as you can get.

That must mean that every extra Pound that your feet have to Lug .. puts 5 pounds worth of strain into your back muscles.

Toy with some back pack desings using bungee cord to suspend the pack to the frame. The shock absorber affect of the bungee will reduce the forces on your body as you plant each foot onto the ground.

Here is another that adds to this idea. Uses the up and down motion of the shock absorbing pack to generate electricity to charge cell phone, etc.

Maybe one will sponsor your walk?
