what about 7's is really so appealing that you keep trying to get around the laws that say you can't have them

They're non-existent.
It'll be against the patent laws for them to ship them to you in the US

Depends on who is doing the shipping.  One friend can certainly buy a pair in the UK (which satisfies the royalty requirement to the patent owner) and ship it to another friend in the U.S. at cost.  Royalty is only required to be paid on the initial sale for any item - which in that case would be satisfied.  So, technically, he could obtain one that way.  You can't do that in bulk because the UK person would be viewed as a dealer by the courts - especially if he made a profit in the exchange.  And no authorized dealer is going to ship to the U.S. because they are limited to the regional market that is spelled out in their licensing agreement with the patent owner.

thanks for the replys, but they didnt really help.  i while back i emailed 7's company directly asking them when 7's would be abl to sell to the US.  two days ago they replied saying that they were now available for purchase directly from them.  i am asuming they know what they are talking about when they say they can ship to me.  now i am trying to find how much the taxes would be.
-Thanks

Well, if they can ship 7s directly to the U.S. now, that is GREAT news!  But why are you trying to figure out import tax?  THEY should be figuring that out and telling you what the total cost will be.

1) Yes, I got the same info that 7s is now allowed to sell into the US.

2) Import tax strongly depends on the good you purchase. Some items have no tax (since important for the country), some items are highly taxed as protection against the import. You would have to look into your (US) tax catalogue or ask a shipping expert (in the US) who knows the (US) categories. But usually sport equipment is not taxed that high (my guess: between 2% and 10% but that is only a guess)

(An European will have problems to figure out your tax since this depends on the US customs office)

If they can now ship 7s to the U.S., no doubt they will soon be setting up their own dealers in the U.S. -- and the consumer won't need to be calculating import taxes.

I agree.  But I still think a company shipping their product into the U.S. should contact U.S. Customs and find out what the import tax will be on their product.  It is just good business practice, and information the consumer needs to know when ordering.

I fully agree. But there is no official selling to US yet. So it would be (more or less) a favour for the "early birds". But you are right 7s might already know, ask them.
