Hey all!

I've just got a set of Poweriser 7090s from ebay, eveything seems to be in order except one thing:  The right spring(?) squeaks every time I put pressure on it. Angry

Given that these have probably been laying in an attic for about a year, is there any maintainence/oiling of joints/whatever I should do?
Also what are the benefits on 'taping', is this purely aesthetic?
(apologies if there's threads for this already)

To solve the squeaking you should take them apart and cover all the brass bushings with copper grease or similar, if you don't have any copper grease then you could use wd40, squirt some on the joints then bounce around a bit, and repeat until squeaking has gone.

Taping the spring is to protect the spring from impacts, there is usually a thin covering over the springs but this get chipped very easily and if the spring gets chipped and damaged it will significantly lessen its life.

Oh yes, everything can be found several times over on this website.  About the springs, how much do you weigh?  Please use kilograms.

I'd also suggest making sure the bolts are all tight, especially at the joints.

Taping is a good idea, as the protection they come with is insufficient.  Scrapes and chips on springs eventually translate to breaks, so you'll want to do that.  Hockey tape works best.

I weigh 73kg.
I'm slightly scared of taking them apart just yet, but I'll certainly give them a good seeing to with WD40.

To me, WD40 works great! I found a few weeks ago that my bocks were squeaking and that i had to squirt some wd40 on the joints like people have already said. Now i have no squeaking at all, but it took quite a few squirts though but should be no problem! So now i do it a bit more regular to save me time Cheesy.

wd40 is a solvent not a lubricant, use grease, silicon, or graphite.

Have WD40'd them for now, that's sorted the squeak temporarily, but will hunt down a good grease asap.
Thanks for the advice.  Grin
