I really want to start practising front flips, but I'm not sure what to land on as I don't have a crash mat and my local sports centre will not let me use my bocks on their new floor Sad

I can do them very easily on a trampoline, but last time I tried in the gym didn't go to well, so I know I'm going to be landing on my ass.

I did have an idea to use an old mattress, would that work?

ok seriously, you need something to land on or you are going to cause injury. Lewis can do flips all day long on a trampoline, fronts, backs, sideways, insideout etc but on bocks the extra weight slowed his rotation and gave him a different technique so I think it is important to be ready for that and have a soft landing.

If you are really stuck, ebay for a inflatable mattress and get 2 or 3 of them. I actually use one of these to put under our crash mat sometimes as our mat is old and only 6" thick which is not enough if someone lands square on their back or arse.

I strongly advise anyone to not try to learn to flip with no mat.
It's not worth the injury.

Hey noodle, just take your time. The important thing for myself was to just get the feeling of getting nice and high on the bocks first and be comfortable in the air , so when you come down , you feel secure on your feet.

If your practicing onthe tramp, make sure you feel super comfortable going around in your flips and get a real feel for spining. Yes I agree with Locky, use a mat , I was stupid and didn't, hurt my butt plenty too, but i must say if i had a mat i would have used it ,but i had good soft grass and that did ok for myself.  Make sure your comfortable first, no Bails . Wish u luck

Yeh I agree with Locky on this one, learn it on your feet first. If you can do that then you will find it easy on your bocks!
