hey i have thought of another idea to solve the wet foam problem:

basically the lining you use for the edges should all be connected and then can be used just like a big bag!!

so all all you need to do is have a few holes around the top and thread some rope through and pull tight, lift our and put in a safe dry place for the night.

Problem solved

Deleted previous post cos it was repeating what everyone else said.

Added: Why not approach your local dump. If they've got old sofas pending landfill then I'm sure they wont mind you gutting them first.

NEVER try to STAND UP a skill in a loose foam pit. (not sure about with Boks on) The packed down foam in the bottom is uneven. You can easily break of foot, twist and ankle etc.  What you do is right as your feet are entering the foam's top  you sit to prevent your legs from needling right to the bottom.

Also NEVER EVER land on your stomach in a pit.  Your stomach area will sink while thighs and chest stay at the top forcing you into a hyper arch.  Same with landing on your side.  Both can cause sever spine injury.

Never DIVE into a pit. You can easily break your neck.
So technically all of those of us who went to bradford and team 101's gym should all be disabled or dead Cheesy

Thats what I was thinking, I myself am alive and have the full use of all my limbs. I have landed on my stomach ( I am not advocating this though, it hurts like hell) and on my side. I have even stood up several times in the foam pit all this without any injury.....

somat  4 the CV then I think...... I have survived  , without noticable injury, standing up in a foam pit.  I can also remove sliders from sinks and can open a tin of corn beef without cutting a finger Grin

It's a game of odds.  You see I've worked with pits DAILY for 17 years.  Therfore I see and experience the odds of injury over a higher rate of pit use.  You folk are not there daily and dont; so odds are you wont see it as often as I.  ... its a numbers game.   We play the odds daily in life.

Example, Jay Perrone; one of my athletes, trained with me AFTER a spinal fusion of two vertebre. He had to have this done due to BREAKING HIS BACK in another gym's pit one summer. He was lucky to have recieved no spinal cord injury.

You can foolishly choose to ignore a professionals experience or you can listen and lower your odds of injury even more with out loosing the fun in life... its all up to you.

All you can do is warn people coach.  Smart people listen to the more experienced and dumb people cause medical insurance rates to go up.

I was thinking about building a foam pit out here in Iowa for when I get better with my bocks. I Have a Hill behind my house that I was thinking of Putting and Angled Box On. Was going to foam inside and paint it and have weather sealed lockable lid to prevent water from getting inside. Any Comments or Suggestions?

where are you going to source the foam? whenever i hear about foam pits that is always the expensive part.  i know the 1' foam cubes used by gymnastics gyms and skate parks cost $1 each, so to fill a reasonable sized pit is pushing $1000 in foam.  I've seen others that are full of what looks like scrap upholstery foam, but idk where you'd get it.
