Alright so after reading through all these posts, I have decided to give some of you a few tips about doing flips. I haven't got my powerisers yet but I am an extremely accomplished diver and do just as well on a trampoline. Also, I have been a coach for the last 2 years teaching children how to properly dive and safely do flips.

To do a backflip, there are a few things you need to remember:
1) Most people never use their arms for momentum. If you swing your arms up and forward this will create momentum. You should swing your arms forward, up, and stop them just a little bit past your ears. The arm swing should be done prior to tucking up for the flip

2) Tucking up for a back flip means bringing your KNEES TOWARD YOUR HEAD. Trust me when I say this, dont bring your head to your knees. You won't go anywhere. Finally, when you bring your knees toward your head, bend them and 'tuck up' into a ball. Some have said not to tuck while on poweriser. It should not matter if you tuck or do a layout. Just make sure you get the flip all the way around.

3) Finallly, throwing your head back to start a flip isn't a good idea. You really should be able to keep your head in the normal position it always sits. Flinging your head back will cause you to go backwards, not up. If you dont have enough height, your going to land on your head.

Keep these things in mind while you guys start to learn to flip. As said by many other people already, learn to flip on a trampoline first. Try and get someone to spot you so you dont break your neck.

i totally agree with ya, i have seen many people attempt to do back flips, where they think that if you jump in the air and throw your head back they would acomplish the goal, where the only goal they would acomplish would be a serious injuy.

most important steps are

1) lift
2) knees to the head (now might be harder since u have 16 Lb's strapped to you)
and 3) spot the landing, when u are upsidedown

if anything please get someone to spot ya, but someone who knows how to spot correctly, cause they will be the ones that will have to make a decision to spin u faster or to prevent u from spinning, and that decision would have to be made VERY quickly.

Hello,
I'm new to this forum.  i have had my powerisers for about a year and i think i am about ready to try a backflip.  i have a trampoline and do backflips on it all of the time.  I am mostly worried about over rotating and landing on the back of my head.  Has anyone ever over rotated a backflip on powerisers?

thanks,
pangle

Hello and welcome to PoweriserPages.com! Smiley  It's entirely possible to over or under rotate, as this is one of the risks of flipping in general.  I reccomend that you learn on a rig, or get spotted by someone whom is familiar with the spotting process.  Just, stay in control and do so with proper padding, and possibly a helmet too.  Make sure that you are aware of the risks associated with it, and that you know and accept that you can possibly hurt yourself very badly.  Otherwise, we all wish you luck and please document your experiences on the forums!

hi pangle welcome to the forum....

now if you have been doing flips on a trampoline for a while, u should beable to spot your landing;

but if you do flips and feel lost during it then just happen to land on your feet, then id be careful about doing a flip with powerisers

spotting your landing is the key to no over rotating or under rotating

Can you describe the method of spotting a landing?  Do you just use your equlibrium and your eyes to manually spot a landing?  Or is there a technique involved beyond that that i'm not aware of?  My flip lessons start next week!

glad your taking lessons, what ya wanna do is when your about upsidedown, take your head and look back, (do not look back my turning your head but like pointing your chin to the sky) then u wanna look for the ground and pick a spot on the ground to aim for.
while your looking your feet will follow.

kinda like standing on some stairs and jumping off you usually look for a spot to land.

hope this helps ya out a bit  Smiley and have fun learning on a trampoline!!!!

thanks!  I cannot wait, i'm so excited.  It'll be trampoline, then with a belt rig, and then hand spotting, and then free flipping.  Then i'm going to learn on a sprung floor.  I want to be able to flip really proficiently on my feet, prior to throwing on the risers.  I'm going to learn front/back flips and layouts, and probally half twists as well, and whatever else that they are willing to teach me.  I'd love to learn how to do a wall flip too! a bit of advise.............stretch out big time before each session.

flips is one of those things where once u get good at it, you wont even realize how your doing it and what steps you take to do a flip, it becomes second nature,

like for me, once i get on a tramp and do back layouts or back layouts with a full, ill get comments like "u look so graceful"........lol. but thats the thing, you will just beable to do it so easily.

ok one more thing, your doing the spotting rig which is cool, but remember this, dont worry about the rig, ive seen alot of people do the flip then worry where the rig is, then they grab the ropes. just pretend its not there.

again, have fun with it and good luck

I'm not altogether that worried about hurting myself... I'm in great shape, and i exercise daily.  I'm also pretty fearless, as i've done BMX, MotoX, etc over the years.

Soon enough!

That is a sensible idea, I'm looking into a similar idea for training with my mates.

Just saw this so here what to do once you've mastered flips, this guy has REALLY got it sussed! Check out how much air he's getting!

I'm curious how strong spring has to be used, relating to the weight of the user, to be able to do a flip?

I guessing the next spring range above your weight if you want to make sure you make it around easily.

I'm going to need one of those nice thick mats for practicing on my driveway.

My weight is about 76 kg and I have PR5070 since PR7090 was out of stock and I thought I could buy new springs later. I managed to do a frontflip after 3 days of powerising but maybe the softer spring was an advantage when learning in this case. I had to use some force in the jump but you should need to do that with harder springs too.
