I am in contact with a Gymnastics gym, and they are going to be providing me with floor trampoline time, sprung floor time, spotting, and a wire rig.  That way, i can learn how to flip correctly with AND without powerisers attached to my feet.  I want to be able to do this proficiently, and reliably.

You find that you often have to get adjusted when you utilize your body in that manner?

I can only imagine what i'll be in for.

I'm used to BMX, Snowblading, Skiing, running, Fencing, Moto X

guess we'll find out.

what have noticed in the past was that in my prime id go to gymnastics practice 6 days a week for 3 hours each night year round, and i would be accustomed to that with no problems,

then i would go downhill skiing during the winter once and awhile, also rarely go to Colorado. after that, the next day i would be dieing from pain in the legs.

i figure its different muscles i was using, or a different way of using them that stressed out the body. so since i havent been in the sport for quite some time (10 yrs),  i figure ill be hurting abit once i start bocking.

Hey Guys,
Although i havnt yet done a backflip on my powerisers yet i can do them on a trampoline quite well and how i originaly learn to do them was on a high jump mat, after doing some jumps at high jump one day i started to over rotate in the jump and this gave me the confidence to try a backflip on the mat with my 2 gymnast friends help. i managed to get round but not onto my feet, only because i couldnt get the lift on the big squashy mat Wink.

another key thing that no one has metioned in doing a backflip is, i think, to tuck up when rotating it helps you get round and onto your feet. dont ask me about the landing though Grin

hope that helps

when you are doing a flip, don't bend your knees in the air! that would not make you go around! compare the two videos of mine in the video/article section.

Good luck! Wink

Alright so after reading through all these posts, I have decided to give some of you a few tips about doing flips. I haven't got my powerisers yet but I am an extremely accomplished diver and do just as well on a trampoline. Also, I have been a coach for the last 2 years teaching children how to properly dive and safely do flips.

To do a backflip, there are a few things you need to remember:
1) Most people never use their arms for momentum. If you swing your arms up and forward this will create momentum. You should swing your arms forward, up, and stop them just a little bit past your ears. The arm swing should be done prior to tucking up for the flip

2) Tucking up for a back flip means bringing your KNEES TOWARD YOUR HEAD. Trust me when I say this, dont bring your head to your knees. You won't go anywhere. Finally, when you bring your knees toward your head, bend them and 'tuck up' into a ball. Some have said not to tuck while on poweriser. It should not matter if you tuck or do a layout. Just make sure you get the flip all the way around.

3) Finallly, throwing your head back to start a flip isn't a good idea. You really should be able to keep your head in the normal position it always sits. Flinging your head back will cause you to go backwards, not up. If you dont have enough height, your going to land on your head.

Keep these things in mind while you guys start to learn to flip. As said by many other people already, learn to flip on a trampoline first. Try and get someone to spot you so you dont break your neck.
