hey, as you may know, i am doing a parade this weekend, and because i heard it might be wet, i decided it was well time to replace my worn out tyre socks (they had holes the whole way through) i have decided to do the bolt on method, because i don't have enough length to do the regular method, and i have a couple problems:

first, when you do the bolt on, how do you solve the problem that the metal thing that holds the spring to the foot is raised when you put the tire in between?

also, more importantly, is there any disadvantage to cutting the wire out of the sides of the tyre so that it is easier to shape? i have heard that it might make it more likley to slip?

thanks

The screws on my old pro-jumps were fine for the extra length the tire adds, thought if yours don't you might have to buy longer screws
also, more importantly, is there any disadvantage to cutting the wire out of the sides of the tyre so that it is easier to shape? i have heard that it might make it more likley to slip?

i left mine on so it was 'hugging' the tire sock (check the mods gallery section), i also saw one person just tuck the wire under the foot as normal people do. I'm not sure if cutting off the wire would be too important as you can get the tire on really tight with the bolt on method.
Hope this helps

I'm pretty sure we determined a while ago that removing the wire lets them slip easier, no one's done conclusive tests but that seemed to be the genearal opinion

i folded my wires in and they slipped off so often i just took em off:( see modification page:) they looked nice but weren't very practical Smiley
when i get my 7's tomorrow, i'm gonna cut the tyre and use the tread only, i'm gonna vulcanise the inside of the tyre to my hoof, bolt it on top, and let the tyre go up the back as to where the metal stops Smiley
i'm pretty good with rubber and vulcanising, used to be a tyre fitter:)
i'll post some pics soon Smiley

Just to say, that might void your warranty TFD, so if anything goes wrong they might not take them back. Sounds interesting though.

k, i will cut the wire and tell you all how it goes, also, i may have been unclear on my first question, but what i mean is the bolt that goes through the metal bracket and the foot wont fit, because the tyre raises the metal bracket

I cut the wire out of mine and they seem to be pretty good.  Just gotta make sure you get em on good and tight.  They're way easier to strap down without the wire in the way too.
