Right so we need to start planning for capital bocking '08

first off we need two things a date and a location.

Its been requested that we have ours a week or two off from CB UK so that people can attend both if they desire, that's fine with me, so we're looking at August 2/3, 9/10, or 23/24 i think are the good choice, if we go any later in augusts we'll run into problems with kids heading back to school.

Next is location, I'm all for moving it around as getting to bock as many places as possible, The states have a lot of capitals, we'll bock them all eventually.  I've suggested Boston, MA to a few people and they all seemed to like the idea so what to others think of Boston for this year's capital bocking.

thoughts, ideas, suggestions ?

wow  all the states  so 50 more years  of CB USA(51 if puerto richo joins) ---like ya style

UN actually UK has more capitals than generally realised, i can think of 7 existing at mo --then there are the capitals of long dead kingdoms and principalities dating back to b4 the romans landed here!  So there could be a capital bocking  douglas  or winchester  in the future Grin

I plan to XS, and I'll drag as many welshies as can afford it. But dont go arranging dates based on me wanting to be at both events. It depends on my financial situation in the summer. If you'd rather them on the same weekend then go right ahead.

Boston sounds cool but does anyone have local knowledge of a great place for bockers?

Personally, I think I'd rather leave Capital bocking at the capital (DC and London), and bock the state capitals during the rest of the year.  Something about having a regular event at a regular place is attractive to me.  I may be alone in this feeling, however.

I'd rather avoid aug 2/3, as I have an anniversary that following monday :/  9/10 and 23/24 sound good to me.

Well sorry  just to muddy waters a lil too, like locky id like to hit the states this  year   but its the pennies to save. And flights during skewl hols are at their steepest. ( and for m vvv difficult to get time off).

Having said that Washington is a V iconic location ( and as Id be over longer so  there is also Richmond and Jamestown maybe New Basle and the Albermarle civil war navy museum to think about bocking).

But Id also suggest that to get us over from Europe another NY meet in October would be your best bet. Flights cheaper  and near enuff we can think about a bit of ( oo dare I say it so soon) early christmas shopping ( I expect the dollar to still be pretty darn low v the pound)

I went to The Woodward Dream Cruise last year and it's on the same weekend as Capital Bocking.  Millions of people show up to check out cars then you show up with your bocks and everyone forgets about the cars.  I plan on going to that again with or without Capital Bocking.  If Capital Bocking is somewhere else on a different weekend I don't see why I wouldn't be able to make it.

Personally, I think I'd rather leave Capital bocking at the capital (DC and London), and bock the state capitals during the rest of the year.  Something about having a regular event at a regular place is attractive to me.  I may be alone in this feeling, however.

I agree with Kender about having it at DC every year.  Just kind of sucks because I want to Pwn the Cruise with a massive amount of bockers and it's going to fall on that same weekend every year.  So I'm all for a staggerd weekends for different Capitals.

( I expect the dollar to still be pretty darn low v the pound)

Flipping Canadian is worth more than the dollar right now

Well its not staying in London, but what do other's think?  If the preference is to go back to DC that works.

Well if it does land in boston im going to have to do some major scoping out, as of now I know of 2 good places but im thinking, we'll need more than that. Also I think that DC and NYC has far more historic appeal for those coming from out of country.

As of choosing a place, i think a poll would do nicely....

Hey if tradition is already broke (even though there has only been one event and it's not really a tradition yet) then it's not a big deal to keep it at the same place.  I guess once there are more US bockers it would be a good idea to keep it at the same place and time every year.

I change my mind.  I'm game for wherever is most convienient for everyone.

My vote would be to keep it in Washing DC, that is closer to me. My bocks did not arrive in time for me to go to the first one. But I have been to the National Mall enough to know that it would present some interesting spaces and terrains to bock around and plenty of people around to see us.

Lets go crazy here for a second and be completely optimistic.
Last year you guys had about 8 bockers. How many do you think is possible this year?
