pure carbon is black at its worst..and clear at its best...

coal vs diamond?

carbon fibre is a cloth made from carbon filaments.. (colour/color) depends on quality..

the polymer/resin around it on thses springs is basically plastic..

.........

fibre glass is the same sort of...

fibre glass is a cloth woven with glass filaments.. once again clour/color depends on quality..usually clearish/blue/greyish

and the STUFF that holds it togethor is a plastic polymer/RESIN

.. so...

hard things= brittle
soft =flexible..

... carbon is harder than glass...

but not in glass form.. if that makes sense..

therefore.. carbon-fibre springs with a softer resin..should be similar to fibre-glass springs with a harder resin....

swap that .. and they will snap faster ..

also.... lol...

get it right! like powerskips and velocity slitls .. and you should be able to get a soft spring..with a lot of power!.. all thoses springs power are right near bottomin out.. ..PERFECT ..if we could afford diamond springs.. with a soft resin!..they would be near indestructable..and huge death like bounce!..

(disclaimer).. im drunk but its all true ..

LOL, did you read that up on the net?? Very good explanation. Kiaora by the way... jelly x

Mike to add just a bit to what XS said. PoweriZer pros/upwings/basically the new model are the only ones sold with carbon fibre springs ( and they are black/charcoal in colour). However, it is possible to 'obtain'  the springs seperatly as replacements for worn out glass fibre springs. This is what seems to have happened here.

Lidor, I back up Sprog on the issue of CF strength. CF is stronger than GF. But strength is not all that is needed in a spring, there has to be some 'give and take' in the flexing when jumping. At the moment there are some issues with some springs being too stiff and therefor liable to cracking.

Now the CF issues may well be licked ( well will have to be cos a great deal of money will have been invested) and all that arrive on the market are OK now. I will say that CF is not sold by UK retailers and I gather isnt going to be until they are satisfied. But it is sold in other countries and some are seeping into the UK. I certainly know of brackages in Germany, Austria ( well an Austrian in Sweden at the time) USA as well as UK.

But just to even things up a lil -- I had 2 bits brake on 1 of my 7's today  Grin. 1 cosmetic, the other is the horizontal bar under the footplate that attaches to the stabaliser rods --sheared off  Cry

Being an old fisherman I can remember the fibreglass fishing rods flexy but heavy for the strength you needed if you bent then to far they broke

The first carbon fibre rods were lighter but used to break easier

Now days people don't buy glassfibre rods (too heavy and stiff ) except some boat rods (like a broomstick)

Carbon fibre rods are now light strong and relatively cheep also with an expensive one you can tie it in a knot before it breaks

Give the new springs some time to develop and I think you will get a lighter stronger bouncier spring

In the mean time I will let others test them ( I'm mean and carefull ) when they come good I will be in the queue to buy

kia ora Grin .. haha nah I didnt read that.. kinda know a little bit about physics..and high n low tensile things..n bending n snapping..engineering stuff .. I work for engineers.. (doin structural concrete/welding n STUFF)but am not an engineer by any means ! lol

I agree with Jason too.. carbon-fibre would be great! .. just needs to be woven and resin'd properly.. how to go about that? I have no idea lol..
