Hello everyone

Just want to get all the details about bocking on sand (as Iv never been one for sitting on the beach). Kiola tells me its quite a pleasant surface, but Iv just got a few things Id like to check. 1st how soon does the squeak set in and will it sort itself out, or is cleaning all the joints afterward necessary? 2nd how high can you go on sand relative to a hard surface? 3rd what kind of affect do various kinds of sand have? (I seem to remember reading somewhere that bouncing on wet sand was a bad idea).

Thanks
Karl

Sand as salt in it so you MUST clean them after every go on the sand !

My only go on sand was horried ! I sank in and slipped about like I was on mud !?

1st of all the Squeek started after we where using the sand about 20mins in and the squeek needed to be dealt with by bouncing the sand out and then Re-Oiling up the hoof and other Joints. i found the sand just dried out the joints ..

also the sand we where on was A-Grade Gawwgeous stuff! so it would be hard to find anything comparable unless we have a really nice beach anywhere close..

2nd - we didnt bounce on the sand just used it as a crash matt.. was hard to get any sort of bounce out of it because we sunk in up to the top of the hoofs.

3rd. No anwer

I think the bottom line is they weren't meant for use in sand.  Sure, you can use them in sand if you like, but that's like putting on a pair of ice skates and walking down the street in them.  It's sure to ruin the equipment.

good comparison!

all the sand just gets into every nook and Cranny.. dries up everything and damages the bearings. so its not advised

i've walked out across a beach to the water line and getting there across soft dry sand was the most tiring 100yards i've ever walked on bocks, you sink in about 4 inches and gotta pick up your feet more to not catch a hoof, and if you fell in it, don't think you'd be able to get back up with out taking them off.  Once you get down to wet sand its not bad, has to be very close to the waterline to not sink in to the point i'd consider running or jumping.  I didn't jump but ran a bit on it and it was fine.  I didn't get a noticeable squeak that day, but cleaned my stilts out that night anyway.

Jumping = NO.

running on sand, not so bad... specifically by the water line, where the sand is denser.

I've walked sand several times, and the loose sand is rough to do... but the waters edge is nice.

um, I've done most types of sand, walking and jumping and then did the same in the ocean. Oops?

Doesnt seem to have done any damage, WD40'd them when we came out and put some oil spray on around the hoof bolts but everything is still working.
