So I was out bocking last Wednesday because the weather was so nice. I hadn't been on my bocks for quite awhile because it's winter, so i needed practice. I was trying to get my jumps to what they were and i decided to do a trick, and i screwed up bad.
I fell backwards and landed on my arm when it was vertical. I looked over and my arm was curved really funny, and I was Pissed.
i ran back into my house about 100m away, and hurt bad. i waited a few hours in tremendous pain b4 any painkillers were given. I found out I needed surgery and now I've got a metal plate in my arm.
I'm off for 3 months. Cry
I can't do anything i like for a long time.
I have x rays, post in gallery soon.

Wristguards save your wrists not your arms

Wrist guards are not full proof, but they do take a lot of the impact away from the wrist joint. You got unlucky.

The point in wristguards is if that you do go down weird you come out of it with 2 broken bones in your forearm rather than all the little ones in your wrist and hand shattered to pieces.
So they did actually work Smiley

The annoyance really kicks in when you face not being able to bock (among other things) for many weeks Sad

Been there, done that. Twice. No fun.

That sucks about your forearm Sad  One of the things that worries me about trying a new trick is that I'm going to land funny and break something, like you did.

Look on the bright side, in three months it'll be spring! (pun alert!)

I was also out last week when it was so nice, I learned that the sand (grit) on pavement makes is rediculously slippery Sad

So is it a joint that you have broken or just snapped a bone?

Either way I agree with Sprog, just be glad that you didn't just mash all the bones in your hand :S

Sorry to hear that ES. I broke both bones in the same spot you did, catching myself in a fall. Yeah, painful. I know how frustrating the recovery is.

Oh. I remember how curvy in the wrong way my arm was! OOh.

Take care.

Anyone have tips on how to avoid this kind of injury, when you're inexplicably falling backwards?

edit: please, no "Lol don't fall down!" posts

I haven't got any bocks yet and thus don't know.

But twisting your body so you cushion the impact perhaps?

Maybe the bocks would get caught together in some form of roll.... Tongue Just throwing something out there.

the way to avoid this injury is to not brace your fall with your arms, while this may be counter intuitive, it works. if when falling back wards you put your arms to your sides and take the fall, yes it'll hurt, but you prolly won't break any bones.  also if you have elbow pads on you can stick out your elbows to slow your fall as they'll just straighten out as you impact.
