More irritating than owe.... but not sure what to do.

Anyone else have the knee bar right on a surgery scar got any hints.

So much more stable now that I moved the bar up but this damn scar...hmmm.

Oh, I was all set to reply to this with "Wow, already? that sucks!" but it appears this is an old scar, rather than a bock-related one Cheesy

Kiola and XS have the right ideas, I think.  On this forum are a few mods about replacing the knee bar padding.  The pads that XS wears go from above the knee to mid-shin, so they'd probably do the trick too.

Yep old scar. Knee was rebuilt in 1996 I think it was. Scar has allways had a good bite to it when kneeling on my knee etc.

Yeah I am leaning toward that concept myself. Another thing to buy grrrr.. and probably have to order it or drive an hour to find anything like it.  I have also considerd modifying mechanical knee brace as a leg cuff after cutting off the bar.  Dang.... and I use to have good contacts with makers of leg braces for the handicapped.  Would be perfect resource.

Thanks... and I have read most all the Mod threads on the knee bar already.  was just wondering how they might have worked for anyone else who may have such a scar.

i think your the first that has mentioned such a scar... other than that there has been a few peeps with long term knee injuries.. but no scars that are similar to that.

Well Coach, I've had 9 knee surgeries - two of which were ACL recons with allografts (2001 & 2002).  No scars to speak of there because it was done via orthoscopic surgery - but plenty of others.  I originally wore a set of Donjoy ACL braces - but had to custom build a knee loop out of copper pipe that would fit them.  Worked okay, but not great.

These days I wear custom fit Townsend unloading braces, which fit nice and snug into the factory knee loop.  Nice.  I also wear an ortho sleeve underneath the braces to prevent blisters when bocking.

I know...  nice legs.  Calm down, girls.

If you don't wear braces, I would recommend a long knee pad and/or pad your knee bar with some foam pipe insulation at Home Depot.  The old foam type insulation is okay, but they just started carrying a type of pipe insultaion that is like memory foam.  Really comfortable.  You can easily replace your factory knee loop padding with that.

Good luck.

I am suppose to be wearing my custom Towsend too.  This is the only thing that has ever put strain on my leg this way. But Im lucky. My surgery was done by the guy who invented the surgery and though mostly retired at the time... had done many many world level athletes.  He did so good I just have not needed the brace.   Figure Ill be breaking it out from hiding (once I find it... all my stuff is packed still.  I've moved but still living in my office while looking for a place to live)

My Townsends are for dealing with my osteoarthritis in the medial compartment of my knees, but they also give me a sense of security in protecting the joint, making it impossible for my knee to overextend.  Even with good knees, I might have opted for a knee brace of some sort when bocking.
