Break a leg!....or two!

I figured that i need a wider spacer but I'm not sure how to make one with the right measurements. I saw my friends powerisers and the hoof frames had been bent inwards and been worn down by the brass washers.

i just eyeballed it, they were bent a little, so i made them a little wider, and sanded the spacer and pulled on the hoof till it fit.

XS I've liked that, but the fact that the black spacer was  omitted made me wary of it. I'd rather have a wobble than a massive gouge in my spring, which has happened before.
Did you add something under it to prevent that from happening?

yeah i made a custom spacer out of some scrap metal, i haven't tested it, that's the only part i'm worried about.  On dominion's we used 2 pieces of aluminum sheet metal, he said they slide around a bit but protect the spring fine.  I'm working on a new solution as i don't really like my scrap metal, i'm thinking an extra piece of tire, rubber's should be a good solution for force dispersion.

I could also play with just sanding out the plastic spacer, but then it would be even thinner, and i've snapped 3 of them already.  I think something better is needed their anyway.

I agree the plastic spacer isn't the best. Mine is cracked and has ate away at the rubber protecting the spring, but has done the job of protecting it from damage. So rubber might work but I'd worry about it getting  hacked away. It would need to be pretty tough rubber.

I was thinking a plastic/metal sheet over a rubber covering despite the fact that the rubber could get torn away and have plastic snap.

Now for a more complex solution, cut the copper pipe in half, use only 1 half, solder it to bridge the hoof and continue using the black spacer.
It's getting tough.

solder won't hold up to the force of bocking, it'd have to be an aluminum bar welded in place like 7's have.

as long as there is plenty of force holding the rubber in place i don't see it getting hacked away. and bike tires are pretty tough.  The forces on it there are prolly much less than on the hoof and they hold up there for a while.

Just don't tighten all the bolds and screws too hard to make your risers stiff.

I don't think it makes a difference.  I'm suspicious that they make them that way because it's harmless and the only true fix is adding a spacer across the top of the hoof part.  Even when I tighten it, it gets loose again.  I think the rubber is a good idea, but I don't think it really matters.

I had to tighten my screws twice for them not to lossen, that was about one weeks ago.
Now i have anather problem, well 2 actually.
NR 1:The rear strap have snapped in half since a washer cut through it. I have sent a letter to skatehut for about 2 days ago in the hope that they would replace me with a new, but has not received any response yet. I hoped that they could verify my order through to check on my mail address because I have wasted my order.
NR 2: After that my bonding had broken I was forced to bring the strap as far in as possible. So when I was moving my foot up and down footplate began squeak a little, but it was not so much.
After a period of fooling around I started to go for a little higher heights. So, after a couple of jumpes I heard a loud snap that sounded lik hard plastic breaking. I took off my styltan without finding anything wrong, got up on them again and jumped high again when the snap again were heard. took them of again and check it the footplate, flexed them to see if the spring qould be broken but without finding anything. went up on the lawn and got up beside a swingset and started to jump again as high as I just could, but without making any sound.
Do you think you know what it might be that haunt me?

OHH ps ( I dont know what PS stands for) I suggest that you replace the washers for somthing in a larger size so that you do not have to break your bonding straps.  And i could ad a picture as fast as i know how.

Your bindings broke?  What kind of stilt do you have?

I don't know what the cracking noise was... That is very strange that it only happened twice.

And PS is Latin.  It stands for post scriptum, which is best translated as "after it was written".

Is this the binding problem?  Its happened to a few people.

To keep the bolts tight, throw some locktite on them.

as for the cracking, was prolly your spring, but they do that some times, does not mean they will fail or they're dead, just fiberglass can do that when put under the kind of stress that bocking imparts.

No, anyone who understands the bindings will tighten it right.  That only happens when it's too tight.  The purpose of the washer is to increase the surface area so the same pressure isn't so destructive.

the frame spacer is not required, but I believe it will make your frames last longer.  There is also the problem that we have not worked out a perfect solution to replacing the black plastic spacer, so this fix isn't perfect yet, I was going to be working on it later today actually, i'll get back to you with results.

The binding washer should prolly be done, don't think its a problem of over tightening like frank said, cause i don't think anyone who's had the problem assembled their own bindings.

OH, now I see how that problem arises.  I still don't think it's something worth worrying about, because the only way to tear the bindings that way would be by trying to use your ankles to jump, which doesn't work.
